Sep 06, 2010

Victoria North and Judith Neukam

If you have watched all 30 episodes of our beginner sewing series, Teach Yourself to Sew, you have learned the skills necessary to make a jacket using Simplicity Pattern 2424. Threads Senior Technical Editor, Judith Neukam showed you how to cut out a jacket pattern and follow the guide sheets to start making the jacket components in Make a Jacket: Part 1. You may need to refer back to earlier episodes to brush up on your skills for some of the techniques, but you will also learn some new techniques as we work our way through this final project. Teach Yourself to Sewis for beginning sewers or anyone who wants to brush up on their skills. The pattern Threads/Simpicity is a great one for beginners. First of all, it scares us off our seats to see what appears to be a multitude of seams, gathers, fittings & choices. Not being built like the beautiful model doesn't help with the confidence! So I am going to build a jacket that will look like this beautiful professionally sewn jacket over a series of lessons? Quite a thrill! I certainly hope that the instructions are written down somewhere on the changes & alterations of method ( sequence of sewing)somewhere! Does the current TEACHING YOURSELF TO SEW FOR $24.99 DVD cover this particular jacket THREADS/SIMPLICITY 2424. MANY THANKS ! BRIAROSE

If there are others out there who didn't have a chance to watch & take notes from the 30 episodes of TEACH YOURSELF TO SEW, JACKET PART 1 & 2 THREADS SIMPLICITY 2424, does the new DVD being sold for $24.99 cover all that was taught over the 30 episodes? Thank You Briarose

I'm looking forward to making this jacket. I made a pant and skirt suit with a jacket when I was in my 20's. I later gave them away before taking pictures of what I made. Your tutorial has refreshed me on getting rid of the bulk to make my sewing look more professional. Thanks for the Teach Yourself To Sew series.

Do you think there could be a tutorial on making a corset in the near future? I've been searching the net to find out how to make one.

Very nice tutorial. She makes it look so effortless, plus this is an excellent refresher course for anyone that might not have sewn a jacket recently. I could listen to Judith all day!

I'd love to see the finished product with the rest of the ensemble. It's hard to believe that one could make that jacket in four hours--but if you say so, it must be true! Thanks, Judy.
