How to Make Artful Pillows

Jul 27, 2011
Article Image
Made with layered sheer fabrics and juxtaposed with electric-colored zippers, these modern pillows make unforgettable accents. Luckily, there’s no need to run out to an upscale home décor shop to get them. Instead, head for your sewing machine, and try this project by Linda Boston from Quick Stuff to Sew, Vol. 4. To get the color combination you want, test a variety of sheer fabrics together, and try laying them over white and over each other. The colors may end up coordinating with each other, showing through one another, or even creating a new color once combined. The fabric colors, plus straight seams and bright zippers, give the pillows a retro-modern feel. There are no rules for combining colors and feel free to vary the width of the stripes and to play around with the overlapping technique. Experimenting is part of the fun!
