Look ahead to spring

1919

It’s the first day of winter… so let’s start thinking about spring!

Simplicity recently released their 2012 Early Spring pattern collection. Included are our very own Threads and SewStylish patterns as well as other great patterns you’re sure to love.

Threads pattern 1919 is four-piece ensemble with various options. The princess seam jacket has a peplum extending from the waist to the high hip and has two sleeve length options and two collar/lapel variations. The slim-fit, straight-leg pants are cropped or full length. The straight skirt has one front panel with two waist darts and three panels in the back with a flounce in the center panel at the hem. Mix and match these pieces for multiple professional and chic outfits.

SewStylish pattern 1920 is an easy-to-sew, fashionable grouping that comes in both Misses’ and Plus sizes. The T-shirt has bust darts and short cut-on cap sleeves. The loose, flowing jacket has bust darts, an uneven hemline, and three-quarter sleeves with a button and tab for added interest. The straight skirt has an elastic waist and a knee-high slit in front. Also included is a scarf and belt—make them in a coordinating fabric to easily change up your looks.

Other great new patterns include two styles from the Amazing Fit collection. Pattern 1914 is a Misses or Plus size dress with a princess seam bodice and pleated skirt. The sizing is versatile for many body types including slim, average, and curvy and ranging from a B to a DD cup size. Pattern 1918 is a Misses or Miss Petite size pant with a fly front closure and multiple pocket and hem variations. From Project Runway is pattern 1913. This cute princess seam dress has a straight or flared skirt, three sleeve options, and multiple neck and detail options. And lastly, from the Khaliah Ali Collection, is pattern 1938. This skirt, jacket, pants, and dress ensemble is sized for Misses or Plus sizes and B to DD cup sizes.

Check out these and the entire Early Spring collection from Simplicity.

Spring sewing? My daughter's wedding dress, flower girl dress, something for me to wear as Mother of the bride. How would that Simplicity 1919 look with a longer skirt in a size 20 or so for me? Daughter is designing her own dress, I will be drafting a pattern and making it.

i need a new look. So I am going '60's shift/sheath dresses. More dresses, very Mad Men, very feminine. Moms have been in jeans and sweatshirts long enough. Time for this mom to be more fem and enjoy being a girl.
I have some great abstract, bright, cotton prints, textured linens and subtle damasks.
Can't wait for the kids to get back to school to sew them up-for me!

I have spent the last year collecting up all the booklets for the sewing and tailoring courses from the Woman's Institue of Domestic Arts and Sciences so I have complete versions from the initial set (1916 to 1922), the second round (1923 to about 1928) AND the third round (after 1926). I also have nearly all the millinery ones. I even have their original hem marker and Picken Square ruler.

So starting with the first of the new year, I am going to put myself through the courses in order to test the instructions. I'm hoping to figure out blogging to blog the experiment. I know! for possibly 6 total readers - if I'm lucky!. If nothing else, I will figure out some old-fashioned techniques which are often very useful.

In the process I am also learning a lot about the history of sewing in the 20th century. It's exploding at least one myth - that all women used to know how to sew. I don't think it has ever been true!!

If I could describe the Threads pattern in 1 word, it would be WOW! I think Threads pattern desgin #1919 is FABULOUS. I truly love the detailing of the colar along with the princess seam jacket giving way to a beautiful fit.

This look brings a FRESH and STYLISH look to all in one full pop!

This is a definite for anyone wanting a classic, but stylish change for Spring 2012.

I know it's on my list.

    Best Regards Threads Staff,

    Madisson

Oh my gosh 1919 is a winner. My family and friends are always after me about slogging around in hand-me-downs from my sons. Here on a farm, it's seldom necessary to look like a girl. But this would help me retain the shape I reclaimed last summer with a 25-lb. loss. (Holiday eating makes it easy to go into nutrition denial.) I love the peplum look. With pants, the garment could still be casual. I am thinking denim.

I have a favorite summer dress which I am going to copy. I will create a pattern and then with the three fabrics I have chosen I will make three dresses. Summer dresses are a must here in Bermuda during the hot summer months.
