Pattern Review: Butterick 6219 Skirts

Threads #183, February/March 2016

Sewing Tip: If double-stitching the seams, per the directions, trim the seam allowances to reduce bulk.

This review was originally featured in Threads #183 (February/March 2016).

Butterick 6219

Flattering knit skirts are wardrobe essentials. These pull-on skirts have narrow, faced waist yokes with a concealed casing for elastic, and curved panels on the upper front and back. Choose a floor-length slight A-line with a narrow yoke, or a cocoon shape with a crossover front finished with a wide hem band. Either style can be finished with a gathered drape over the yoke, for a total of four views. All notches and match points line up perfectly. The instructions and illustrations are accurate and well done. Our tester says the A-line view could be made in an hour, and she says she admired the elastic-insertion technique. These skirts would travel well. Select lightweight knits with drape, such as silk jersey or rayon knits.

(Sized Misses’ 6–22 for hips 32.5–46 in.)

Sewing Tip: If double-stitching the seams, per the directions, trim the seam allowances to reduce bulk.
