Pattern Review: Dana Marie Princess Layer 1054

Oct 25, 2017

Dana Marie: Princess Layer 1054

An unlined jacket that also can be made as a vest, this design has many options for personalizing. It has a stand-up collar, front and back yokes, princess seams, in-seam pockets, full-zip front, one-piece sleeves, and self-bound armholes on the vest. Our tester recommends carefully measuring the pattern to check for fit. She also found discrepancies with the pattern. The neckline edge on the front facing is drafted as a straight line, but it needs to be shaped to match the neckline curve. The collar seamline lengths vary from the neck seamlines, so check and adjust the collar before cutting. The notions call for a 26-inch separating zipper. The center-front length on certain sizes may be shorter, therefore, you will need to shorten the zipper from the top. Our seamstress suggests, when making the vest with thicker fabrics, consider changing the armhole binding to a single-layer binding. Fabric choices include prequilted fabrics, fleece, denim, and medium- to heavyweight knits.

(Sized XS–3XL [6–32] for busts 30–54 in.)

Sewing Tip: Before cutting, walk the pattern seamlines to be sure they match.
