I Love Lucy

"Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do"

For Halloween this year, I decided to go as Mrs. Lucy Ricardo, and my trusty side-kick, Valentino, went as Ricky Ricardo (he can be seen in two of the pics).

The dress is a vintage pattern (Vogue, from 1955, #8433), so the styling was perfect!  I did change up the skirt a bit, so that instead of darting in the excess fabric at the waist, I pleated and gathered.  I used white eyelet for a contrasting collar, and matching arm cuffs (not a part of the original pattern, but very “Lucy”) and a self-fabric buckle from a kit I found on etsy.  I anticipate making up this dress with a long-sleeve treatment in silk shantung with the original skirt darts, so this was my multi-tasking “muslin.”

The apron is Butterick Retro #6567 with my own added ruffle.  I loved sewing this together, and I think I will be making more vintage-looking aprons for holiday gifts!

I wore my mother’s pearls and a pair of clip on earrings I found at a rummage sale which I didn’t have time to convert to posts – I don’t know how women wore these evil contraptions; it is now three days later, and my ears are still smarting!
