Glinda the Good Witch
November 4th, 2009 in reader's closetMy embroidery machine came in handy on this Glinda the Good for my youngest daughter. We started with a child's formal pattern to get the pointed waistline on the skirt, but then expanded the width of the skirt fuller doubled it to hold it out without a petticoat and redrew the sleeves. Glitter organza made the perfect overskirt and was accented with star shaped sequins applied with the Be-dazzler that my older daughter got as a gift from her godmother! We found a glow in the dark star wand at the Dollar tree, and the terrific crown was made from clear mylar cut to shape and painted with silver glitter glue. Used about half a bottle of glitter glue to complete this dress and crown. I was pretty proud of this dress and I think it should win because normally, when she asks for a particular fabric or dress or costume, I make it and get the wrinkled brow and "MOM, that wasn't what I wanted!" This year I got a big smile and an actual "thumbs up" The only part she didn't like was the silver lame' butterfly necklace. I sewed several "appliques" out on my embroidery machine using designs from embroidery library she said the one at her neck "itched" but the one on the shoulder really "made" the costume.
