Gramma's Costume Closet
comments (0) November 4th, 2009 in design, reader's closetI couldn't find a pattern for Belle, so I created this one on my own. My granddaughter Christa was a beauty in gold satin.
Likewise, Simplicity no longer makes a Sleeping Beauty pattern, and this was a real challenge to recreate; especially the collar. But I was pleased with the outcome, as was my granddaughter Jada. I added a few embellishments that the original SB didn't have, but I thought it needed some oomph.
Cinderella on the other hand seemed to be perfect with no extras. I just made a simple bodice and skirt and added puffy sleeves and drape and it was perfect for my granddaughter Trinity. I made the gloves out of panne, tracing around my own hand and using a zipper foot to make small seams.
Tinkerbell is the closest I came to following a pattern. Simplicity #2872 was a good start, but it called for a row of leaves on top of a skirt. Instead, I made 2 rows of leaves, one of green lame on the bottom, and one of sheer on the top. Then I covered lame with the sheer for the bodice. 3 year old Selah was an adorable little "Stinkerbell".
