After seeing this circular vest in the January 2010 issue of Threads (#146, p. 69), I thought I’d try to make one with all the “extra” fabric I’ve accumulated.
Both vests were made with double fabric (I didn’t have any 2-sided fabric as the pattern suggests) and fake bound armholes, bound and then hand stitched together) The brown fabric was a knit, the blue was a cotton with about 3% -5% spandex.
The brown was the first try and except for the bound armholes, I went exactly by the pattern instructions. It turned out pretty cute, if I say so myself!
For the blue one, I actually squashed the circle a bit into an oval (shorter on top and bottom because I’m only 5 ft. tall) and then sliced the back to half way up and placed a pleat into the back which I lined with the trim fabric (I am also making a turtle neck shirt out of the same blue trim fabric)
I think this vest pattern would be wonderful in a very light flowing fabric over a strapless or spaghetti strapped dress. I’d love to see how others have created and personalized the vest.

I love it!
I tried this also. Mine did not come out as cute, I will try again. These are very cute.
Really nice work! I would like to try this too!
Cute vests. I was thinking of making one and squashing to circle to an oval, too. Do you have a picture of the back with the pleat?
What a great design. Can be made in various fabrics for casual or dress. I have some wonderful wool jersey that I want to try out with this pattern.
Thank you for your creative designs.
Hello, per request I added a picture showing the pleat in the back. It's a little difficult to see; I think it might be best on lighter weight fabric.
This looks fun as well as easy to make!
Both are well done. I like the beige and brown best. Anxious to try my hand at this.
GOOD JOB, I LOVE THE CIRCLE VEST.
fantastic piece of cloth
I love your work
