My daughter saw a photo of a little girl wearing a pettiskirt a couple of months ago. Being the twirly, fashionista she is, she thought she just “needed” one for herself. I began reading tutorials and looking at more pictures, to learn how to do make one for her. Based on what I read/saw, I decided that our skirt needed more fullness to make it less “see through”. It was still a bit see through, so we added red satin bloomers for more modesty. I ordered 11 yards of red nylon chiffon and 1/2 yd. of Satin Charmeuse. The bottom layer of the skirt is 600″ around, the fluff is 1800″ inches, before gathering. Through my tutorial reading, I learned to change the top tension on my machine to gather the fabric without needing to pull threads. What a life saver! I constructed the skirt in the flat, also making construction quicker and easier. The skirt has a simple elastic waist, with a satin ribbon sash/bow. She wore this skirt for Christmas. We plan to change out the sash to a white/heart ribbon for valentine’s, and then again for summer use. The best part of the project was having my daughter’s (age 6) help in the sewing. Then watching her dance around, showing off her skirt at Christmas, while telling everyone mommy and I made this. Priceless!

Gorgeous! Every little girl needs a 'twirly' skirt. I'm glad she was able to help you make it. I think it is very important to pass on handcrafting skills to our children and our children's children.
