This is my interpretation of an Edwardian tea gown. I purchased the pre-beaded silk sleeves (2 sets) in a peach color, and they set the tone, and color scheme for the entire project. There was a lot of hand stitching/work involved in this piece. I made covered buttons from silk charmeuse and metallic lace, and used them to embellish the skirt front, as well as for the hand made flower that catches the skirt drape, and they are also found on the back lace closure accent. The lace overlay on the bodice was originally a vest, which I deconstructed, and embellished with beaded appliques and fringe. I used polyester chiffon for the skirt overlays. I don’t worry about being a purist when it comes to mixing fabrics; if something works, it doesn’t matter to me if it is natural or synthetic fiber. The really fun part is on the inside; just something that only the woman wearing the gown will enjoy. I used a striped fabric for the skirt lining, and edged it in a really wide cream lace. Just a touch of whimsy for an otherwise proper looking gown.
