Ribbon Roses Are Blooming at Thistle Cottage Studio

Cabbage Rose Quilted Tote Bag with Ribbon Roses

The art of silk ribbon embroidery is something that I have taught myself, and have lately been inspired to sculpt flowers from ribbon to use on my hats, and now bags and barrettes.  It was a natural evolution of my skills, as I have been doing embroidery for over 30 years.  It is not as difficult as it may look!  A little practice, and you can be making blossoms yourself in no time.  If you live in RI, I teach classes in Silk Ribbon Embroidery, and Sculpted Ribbon Flowers. Visit my ETSY shop and leave a message, or just let me know what you think!

Silk ribbon embroidery was popular in the 1920’s and was used on fine lingerie, womens’ gloves, hats, baby and childrens’ clothes, and even wedding gowns.

You can see more silk ribbon embroidery in my shop at www.orsinimedici1951.etsy.com.
