I'd like to see something of those Japanese Designers. I love my Issy Miyake felt jacket. And, what about those strange spherical pleated garments by Hiroaki Ohya?

I must say a very close second was the Susan Khalje article on Chanel Jackets. That issue is well dog-eared at this point and worth its weight in gold!

I started designing and making reversible jackets using curved lines and bias strips. Some won prizes in shows -many have been sold in galleries. Thankyou Threads for this article My second favourite is in issue 40 1992 The reversible quilted jacket by Bird Ross....I have made several variations of this jacket also. I think the reason I still like Threads after all this time is because it caters for the experienced sewing enthusiast.

kundert writes: That's easy. My all time favorite was Inside Secrets of a Chanel Jacket in issue number 121. I actually followed the directions and made a jacket like this.
Second runner up is the article in issue 128 on Shortcuts to Designer Jackets.

It was an article about one of Hillary Clinton's inaugural ball gowns -- how it was constructed, lots of photos from the inside, etc. It was the kind of "how-to" couture feature that Threads is known for. Many thanks for many years of education and pleasure!

ldl2 writes: Too many great, great ideas packed into my brain from Threads articles to pick a favorite. However, I've made the 'Make To-Go Bag' shown on the cover of #137, July 2008 many, many times as gifts. The directions are on page 36. Thank you for this idea and the many others over the years. Santa surprised me with the Threads Archive CD. Even though I am gratful for the searchable feature on this space saving tool... I had a hard time parting with 23 years of Threads magazines, but the extra shelf in my sewing room is welcome. Thank you Threads for the years of inspiration, teaching and sharing. Linda

marieteresa writes: My favourite article from Threads was How to Make a Wedding Dress in I think 1991 or 1992 I made a silk wedding dress for my daughter in 1992 and the article suggested it was lined twice the first layer cut with the dress material and therefore it wouldn't crease and after Princess Diana's beautiful dress ruined by creasing I did what I read and the finished dress was beautiful and not a crease to be seen, with so many compliments. I went on to make more wedding dresses for my daughters friends.
Sadly, I gave away the magazine and I should have photocopied it, but I gave lots my old copies to a student studying fashion. I have subscribed to your magazine for all these years and love it, living in England where sewing is alas a dying art its joyous to sit and read this when it drops through my letterbox, best wishes Marieteresa

seamster writes: That's an easy one. On pages 36 thru 39 of your March 1994 issue, see the article: "A Ball Gown Built for Comfort". I was mesmerized by that article then and have never forgotten it. It's the kind of meaty article that gave more information than I had ever seen before or since in Threads Magazine. I never sewed costumes or inaugural gowns, but at the time I was doing alterations in a bridal shop and worked on many wedding and pageant gowns. This information gave me a lot of insight and valuable tips as I worked on some very expensive gowns and felt I had gained practical knowledge on gown construction from that article. When doing alterations I always keep in mind: For every action there is a reaction...so make sure to think ahead. Congratulations on your 25th Anniversary. I've been reading Threads for more than 20 of those years.
