Sumo Shirt

I was given a couple of boxes of vintage fabric (Craigslist freebies). As I was looking through it, I came across these 2 pieces of sumo wrestler prints. I didn’t know what I would do with them until my husband said “oh, I’d like a shirt out of that” (ok….he’s an musician, and he wanted the shirts for stage wear).

Because the design was printed in a cross grain direction, I purchased some coordinating fabric so that I wouldn’t have to cut the entire shirt cross grain. Actually, the shirt came out looking better than I expected. Not pictured is the little Sumo that I appliqued to the back yoke. The black fabric will be done in a long sleeved version, with a stand up collar.

Lucky Guy!!! I love the pattern. I make Hawaiian shirts for my husband and I'am always keeping my eyes & mind open to wild fabric. Thanks for sharing.
