As a girl, I was what we used to call a 'tomboy', and I always wore shorts, shorts, shorts, nothing but shorts, from May through September (we live in Florida). My grandmother, who studied dressmaking in Germany before she came to America, sewed them for me, with matching halter tops.
Back then, I could never understand why G'ma always wore skirts, year round. After all, you couldn't hang upside down from a tree branch wearing a skirt!
As I've gotten older, I've begun to appreciate the simple appeal and beauty of skirts. Though my days of climbing trees are probably coming to an end, I haven't given that pleasure up completely, so I still need my shorts!
But this spring, when the weather warms and the sun dapples the back yard through the leaves of the oak, I am going to sew - and wear - a frilly, flippy, girly skirt, in honor of G'ma.
Danke, G'ma, for teaching me to sew.

With 3daughters I have a stack of skirts to refurbish, tee's to add embelishments, and new fabric for purses. I don't do all of this...the girls are becoming good semstresses. Thanks for the contest!

This spring, I plan to make the fabulous (and highly acclaimed) trench coat pattern, McCall’s 5525. I haven't chosen the fabric yet but I was thinking of something from Amy Butler or Michael Miller. I love sewing garments with quilting fabrics!

I also have a sun hat on the drawing board and a new dress pattern my husband helped pick out.
I have a full agenda of spring projects but wouldn't mind adding others as the bug bites me. I am hoping the new Sewstylish magazine will be an inspiration!

Ready to sew
Something light, bright and airy
Throw off the garments of snow
I’m feeling spring fever
Itching to sew
Something pretty, a pastel, a purse
Maybe
I need the magazine for inspiration like seeds
To grow
