Cocktail hat
I made this cocktail hat for a friend's daughter, using the hat base pattern from John Koch's article. I had difficulty making the darts in the buckram, using his method. After 5 failed attempts, I put it down to the master knowing his medium, and I resorted to craft glue! It worked just fine. His instructions, from beginning to end, were very easy to follow. I did not have double buckram, so made two separate bases, and basted them together. I also decided to line the top and inside with wool felt, to allow for a smoother surface for the silk charmeuse I was using as my fashion fabric. I covered the top layer with lace as well. I will definitely be making more hats-it was a fun project, and gives a great result.
