Heirloom inspired blouse with lace trim

This top I sewed has a scalloped neckline, with an overlay of pima cotton that curves into gathers under the bust.
This blouse has a lovely embroidered inset that reminds me of a fabric youd see in the Victoria & Albert museum.
Im so happy with the way the design turned out!  It has a very vintage feel to it!

For years I'd wanted to make an heirloom top inspired by some of the lovely dresses worn in Pride & Prejudice.  I have also long admired the combination of white and sage green, such as Liesl's "Edelweiss" dress from the Sound of Music.  This pima cotton creation is the result of several hours of machine sewing, and some time spent hand sewing, as well!  My blouse has an empire waistline that is trimmed with sage green eyelet beading lace, which I laced with ivory ribbon to tie in the front.  Down the center of the blouse I put a lovely embroidered material which has a decidedly Victorian feel to it.  Then in the bodice area I curved and shaped the plain cotton with gathers to resemble some of the Regency era gowns I admire (and also very close to the shape of Liesl's edelweiss dress).  Lastly, I trimmed off the sleeves and hem with cotton heirloom lace, and stitched pearl buttons down the back for an easy closure.  I love the way my new blouse looks, and I look forward to wearing it for years to come!  You can view more of my sewing creations at www.edelweisspatterns.com - Sound of Music costume patterns and more!
