Origami ... Orikeito Dress
Playing contentedly with the wrapper from a pair of chopsticks while waiting for my meal in a Japanese restaurant (origami) resulted in a folded design that I experimented with turning into a garment using fabric (orikeito). It worked!
It satisfies my wish for simplicity, involving only three cuts (neckline and armholes); requires the minimum of sewing; results in unexpected pockets, kick pleats, seams. An initial corner fold starts the process and the desired width of the garment (dress, tunic, coat etc.) dictates the next stages.
It incorporates my fibre archeology finds at church sale/thrift store/flea market digs: the first was a dress from an old linen tablecloth. This jumper/dress was made from a length of handmade Zimbabwe cloth discovered at a yard sale.
It reflects a recurring theme : clothing as architecture housing the body.
