School’s On for Summer!

Threads contributing editor Louise Cutting, of Cutting Line Designs, and her assistant Sandy Miller, are offering a number of classes this summer.

If you have ever considered a sewing get away, Threads contributing editor Louise Cutting, of Cutting Line Designs, and her assistant Sandy Miller, are offering a number of opportunities this summer.

In May and August she has 3-day sessions on Core Techniques. The three days include structured, non-stop learning, and sewing. Participants build a workbook of technique samples including many that are unique to Cutting Line Design patterns (fabric will be provided to complete the sample techniques for the workbook). They receive a custom fitting of the One-Seam Pant pattern, as well as the fabric to make a wearable, working first sample. The weekend will be open to only 20 students. Registration for this three day-core class is separate from an optional day of certified teacher training immediately following.

The Certified Teacher Training is to learn how to teach sewing classes using the Cutting Line Design methods. This class includes a complete set of teaching outlines and descriptions for notions lists for each class, hours needed for the completion of a garment, class costs for teaching, and teacher fee structures. Enrollees receive a copy of all current Cutting Line Design Patterns (approximately a $300.00 value). Upon completion of the Certified Teacher Training, participants can order Cutting Line Design Patterns and the sport elastic wholesale for their classes. The 3-day core class is a mandatory prerequisite for the Certified Teacher Training session.

The Fitting Clinic is offered in June and July. The clinic is open to only 20 students for an intensive three days on fitting Cutting Line Design Patterns. The sessions include general fitting guidelines for darts…how to add, remove, or move them. Shoulder, back, arm circumference, and length adjustments will be addressed. Receive personal measuring charts and proportions. Wardrobe building for individual lifestyles and color stories will be discussed with worksheets provided. After specific pattern adjustments are completed, working samples can be made.

I attended the Core Techniques class last summer, and it was terrific! I learned so many ways to imporve my sewing skills. I love The Cutting Line Designs patterns, and this class has given me the confidence to make these beautiful clothes. Louise and Sandy are great teachers, who ehtusiastically share their experience, knowledge, and creativity. And I had so much fun! The friends you make at the retreats are wonderful!

I took the Core Techniques last August and just finished the Fitting Clinic. These are the best sewing clinics ever! Louise and Sandy really give it their all. Plan to go home exhausted, but with multiple patterns altered to really fit you. You will never be more enthusiastic to sew than after you finish one of these clinics!

    Here's the website:

they don't give specifics there, either, for the particular classes mentioned.

there are several other classes happening this summer, near Orlando, and in Texas. Louise is based in Winter Park FL.

@judithann ~ You certainly do deserve some tuition money for you :) - have a great summer!

Where are these classes--City, State? Dates?
I have taken a class previously with Louise Cutting, at a sew expo. Would love to take more.
Hard to even consider if no one knows when or where.

I have attended several of Louise's classes and completed the core class and Certification class last year. It was well worth my time and very reasonable. Louise has given me more confidence in my ability to sew for myself and share with others. So glad to see that the continuing education is available for others.

    THANK YOU!
