I've already delved into my summer sewing!
Last week I made my very first swimsuit (turned out so cute! I'll be posting photos soon)
This week I am finishing up a cute mini dress to wear as a beach/pool cover-up.

Also, I'm making a bias cut (2 different fabrics), striped wiggle dress w/a shear wide sleeved contrasted top for myself for this wedding. And, to top it all off, a renaissance costume for a friend - something that a herb lady would wear (comfortable w/hidden pockets.)

Bathing suits! And all the other normal summer stuff. But with two long and lanky tweens it is a must to make bathing suits or they just don't fit. Also, I want to make a button front sleeveless blouse for myself soon too. I was going through fabric looking for summer stuff and found this piece that would be perfect for that.

Costumes for the 74-member cast of "Hairspray" for The Carmel Repertory Theatre." Followed immediately by costumes for another large cast of "Annie!" for the same theatre. "Hairspray" is 1962 so all my patterns from the 1960's will be used. "Annie" is 1933. Fun vintage stuff.

She loves everything Wizard of Oz and I happened to find some wonderful fabric. Other members of our org are going to add their own personal gift to include in the bag. A great way to say thanks.

I've grown tired of RTW summer clothes that don't fit quite right, so this summer is dedicated to replacing and updating all that! I've finished one pair of shorts so far, with 2 more to go. A sundress or two is also on the horizon, and "lounge shorts" for the spouse...

I have been making fleece pet blankets for the Tuscaloosa Animal Shelter for charity for the dogs that they have had since the tornado. I am starting to make a bow tucks purse, a sewing organizer (I am taking a class on making the organizer in two weeks). I am also making two "A Little Something Jackets", both for me. I just finished a week or so ago a little something jacket for my mother. I also am going to make a string quilt. I am going on a sewing retreat in the middle of August, cannot wait! I will be organizing my sewing room at the same time I am sewing all these things.

This summer I have just taken the huge step to become a missionary... given the new lifestyle, and budget(!) I am desperately needing clothes. Therefore my summer project is to make whatever I can wear from my 4 boxes of fabric stash. Tonight, A-line skirt. Next week, sundress. Then some shorts... By the end of the summer I hope to have some clothes that fit, vastly improved sewing skills, and more space. Yay.

My list of summer sewing projects consist of the following:

    - Redecorating/remaking the dining room and living room curtains. Still working on a color palette for the changes.
    - Definitely some summer pieces, like the blouse pattern from B5464 - Butterick, Vogue dress pattern V1191 - by Michael Kors, along with a couple of patterns from McCalls - M3219 - curtains, and a adorable summer dress M6346.
    - A couple of cooking aprons. Still looking for a pattern....
    - A business suit. You never know when an opportunity may presents itself. Still looking for a pattern.....

    I will definitely be busy. I can't wait. :)

Hoping that everyone have a great time sewing your projects this Summer 2011. Take care everyone, will check back in a couple of weeks.

    Just keep sewing, keep sewing.

I plan on celebrating losing 20 pounds since January by sewing shorts that fit, skirts three sizes smaller and finally being able to button my shirts without a cami underneath. LOOK OUT- bright colors and attention grabbing silhouttes ahead!

I plan to make the most exquisite Halloween costume this summer!

  67. sksalus | | #67

I love the idea of "cut away" designs, particularly at the lower part of a skirt. It adds to the elegance of a white linen summer skirt.

  73. sandysewin | | #73

After losing 55 lbs in the past year, I have a HUGE pile of fabrics waiting to be made into clothes that fit: a black denim jeans style jacket, a couple knit sarong shorts, cutwork t-shirts, two jackets, a few tops with sheer overlays, a dress and two trench coats, to name just a few.

I also have a stack of garments that survived my closet purge because I like them enough to take the time to alter them to fit.

I doubt that I'll be done with all this by Christmas, lol.

  74. Marvelus | | #74

I recently purchased an Accuquilt cutter at a Quilt show, I plan on making numerous lap and baby quilts for my favorite hospital, using up my scraps. In between that I am making my youngest grandaughter some summer outfits, and teaching my oldest grandaughters how to use their sewing machines.

  75. EZAG | | #75

I would like to sew a stylish skirt for my daughter. She is not sure home sewn clothes can look as good as a stores.

    Thank you

  76. heather36 | | #76

I created a profile as I was impressed with your Bonus Pattern offer in Sew Stylish magazine (Summer 2011). It seems impossible to find the offer on your website.

Maybe you could think of having a website that is more user-friendly.

  77. lizduenas | | #77

I agree. I looked for 30 min trying to find the Bonus Pattern and the Sew a tote as described on pg 7. Never found it. WON'T
    be back!
