A friend gave me several pieces of vintage lace from her late mother-in-law’s sewing stash. I thought it would be fun to use a few pieces on something for my friends grand-daughter. I used New Look pattern 6884.
As I began to construct the dress, I decided that I would leave it sleeveless, and use the just lace as the collar instead of laying it on top of a cloth collar. For a little added detail, I used a wing needle, and an eylette flower stitch on my machine on the bodice (where the pattern suggested lace trim). It’s been 30+ years since I’ve had the opportunity to make something for a little girl…and what fun it was!
This is lovely! The vintage lace makes a beautiful collar, and it is perfect with the sweet print. The wing needle stitching is so pretty and delicate... wonderful work. I'm sure your friend's granddaughter will love it!
This dress looks store-bought which in my opinion, is the highest compliment you can get on a sewing garment.
I can't count the times someone has said, Oh, did you make that? I knew it was a failure instantly. It would occur to no one that your dress is hand made. I love the vintage look slso. Well done!
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL DRESS THAT I'M SURE WILL BE PASSED THRU MANY GENERATIONS. GRANDMA WILL LIVE FOREVER WHAT A HEARTFELT GIFT.
What a wonderful use for a vintage lace! I have tons of vintage laces and doilies and have been looking for ways to use them.
