Kentucky Derby Creation

Having just moved to Kentucky, we wanted to attend the KY Derby, which meant that I needed a hat – one that would be so big that it would invade the space of the person sitting next to me. So, I set off to create a coordinated outfit – hat, dress, and jacket. I designed the jacket using silver Tyvek. It has princess seams and pleated gores on the back to give it shape and movement.  The princess seams of the sheath dress echo the seams in the jacket. The jacket was much wanted in the cool of the morning, but as the day got warmer, the sleeveless dress was perfect. The hat was my new endeavor. I learned how to block a straw capeline brim and embellished it with loads of flowers and crinoline trim.
