This look I threw together for a party during New York Fashion Week.

The shirt is made from blue and white cotton gingham I purchased from my local fabric shop for quite a bargain. I draped the pattern on my form and adjusted the fit to my measurements. I played up the gingham pattern by cutting the collar, sleeve cuff and button placket on the bias so the pattern moved diagonally to contrast the vertical and horizontal lines of the body pieces. They are also topstitched with thicker threads for that traditional men's shirt look. The tuxedo ruffles are made of china silk bias that were hand pleated and hand stitched down the front in alternating color pattern. I also alternated the colors of the buttons for another special little touch.

The bowtie is reversible, one side gingham and the other solid orange cotton poplin.

The cropped vest I flat patterned and was part inspired by origami and the other part inspired by football shoulder pads. Random I know but hey it worked out. I used a medium thickness leather stamped to look like ostrich in order to hold its shape. All the seams are topstitched.

I wore these garments with a crisp pair of blue skinny jeans and boat shoes.
