This Emerald Green Gown by Laura_Mae was picked as the winner of the Threads Ultimate Sewing Challenge sponsored by BERNINA.

This Emerald Green Gown by Laura_Mae was picked as the winner of the Threads Ultimate Sewing Challenge sponsored by BERNINA. As the winner, Laura_Mae will receive a BERNINA 330 Sewing Machine and designer tote worth over $1,500.

With a steel boned corselette as a foundation, Laura_Mae underlined the entire thing by hand with silk organza, and dyed to match. The raw edges were finished with rayon seam binding.

A silk fascinator, and a handbag created with Simplicity pattern 4159 rounded out this evening ensemble.

Congratulations to Laura_Mae for winning these great prizes from BERNINA! Check out the other creative contest entries in the gallery.

Voting for your favorite finalist in this challenge entered you into a Voter Sweepstakes. The winner of this Sweepstakes was picked at random. Winner Tim Lowery will receive a Threads prize package worth over $100. Congratulations to Tim.

    NOT Laura_Mae!

How does she do all this? A corselette?!?! Dyed to match underlining? And then she models her own creations, to stellar effect.

I fawn over her at the Burda website (she's now on the short list of people I'd like to come back as - not that I knew I had such a list, or belief - she sews THAT well!).

Now Laura_Mae is here, with an armload of prizes and notoriety to boot. When awe turns to envy, it is NOT a pretty thing.

Though I am happy for her, happy I say.

With a clenched, but poised smile (like every runner-up at the end of a beauty contest),

    A Laura_Mae man fan

Thank you to Threads and Bernina for sponsoring this challenge! I was honored to be selected as one of the finalists, and am beyond thrilled to find out that I am the winner!

And I would like to give a shout out to all of the fantastic entries – I hope I inspired you half as much as you all inspire me.

My sewing machine will be thrilled to hear that she is going to get a well-deserved break/vacation/retirement – I am not sure how you measure the “age” of a machine, but I would hazard a guess that if she was an automobile, there would be at least 150,000 miles on the odometer, perhaps more . . .

Thanks again, especially to everyone who voted!

P.S. “LuvThreadsMagazine,” you are too funny!
