The Big Reveal
To celebrate the New Year I'm posting this photo from our photographer Jack Deutsch.

I had several requests that I be photographed in the jacket from readers around the country, so--voila! There was a wind machine and makeup involved. The wind machine was used so the hair on the jacket (not the hair on my head) would blow around.

An interesting thing happened on the way to the shoot:
I had a dinner date after the shoot, and so decided to just wear the darn thing, instead of carrying it in a garment bag. I passed two different road repair crews while walking over to the studio, and had a big surprise. When passing both of these construction sites, I got shout-outs from the crews working--it seems they all thought it was a cool jacket.
These guys were the last people who I thought would approve of such a thing, but this is, indeed, Manhattan! And that's why I adore it so.
Enjoy! And much happiness and health to all of you, Dear Readers, in 2013!

You want to alter a trouser equally on inseam and outseam. Otherwise you'll introduce a twist to the trouser leg.
When narrowing trousers, you want to take the alteration off equally from the inseam and outseam. If you want to remove a total of 2" width, you'd take off 1" at the outseam, and 1" on the inseam. Taper up to the knee area or a little higher. This way you won't alter the hip or crotch area, but the legs will have a narrower silhouette.
