Yes, if my daughters lifestyles still called for gowns, we would be sure to look at these gowns for ideas and colors. What wonderful inspirations they are. Their designers deserve the accolades they receive.

I also liked the drama of the Marchesa gown worn by Stacy Keibler.

While I liked the emerald color of Viola Davis' Vera Wang gown, I did not think the fitting on it was flattering to Ms. Davis.

Penelope Cruz' gown was cut beautifully, but too long in the front. I also thought that Glen Close looked beautiful. The dress was also fitted perfectly.

These days I'm most attracted to those gowns which are fitted beautifully and suited to the body.

Only people who sew would know the reason why!

Anyone who has ever made a gown knows that you cannot have a dress that is cut low both front and back...it won't stay on your shoulders! Someone should have installed loops of elastic to go around under her arms to keep the dress in place!

My favorite this year was the one-shoulder gown worn by Virginia Madsen, that is not in this gallery. I think we should leave white to the bridal industry, and strapless to the debutantes. Call me a crank :)

Secondly, my choices for my favorite are as follows:

Jennifer Lopez - Zuhair Murad I loved the flow of the fabric design which married the dress design. Elegant for a lovely lady.

Glenn Close - Zac Pose In my eyes tries elegant. Just lovely for a woman who can carry it off.

Octavia Spencer - Tadashi Shoji my favorite. I think this would be smashing on most figures. It certainly looked marvelous on Octavia. It seems to me to be understated perfection. The material, the design, everything works.

I give an 9 to the Marchesa gown for Stacy Keibler for beautiful draping and use of fabric and construction that defies the laws of gravity.
The rest seemed boring/been there, done that.
I do give a 0 to the Alexander McQueen dress for Jessica Chastain, which gives a drapery/upholstery look. She should have said no to that one.
Thanks for posting the pictures as I didn't watch the show. I'm going to look at more Tadashi Shogi gowns!
Love Threads!

And Octavia Spencer's gown was spot-on for her...her look, her figure, her night! Angelina's dress was a disappointment, and I could have done without the deliberate leg exposure...come on...where's the mystery and art of subtlety these days?

I'm always inspired by beauty!
