I worked on this skirt off and on for a l-o-n-g time! After disassembling the neckties I hand basted and ruffled them while on a 24 hour road trip. I put the ties away to work on some other project and pretty much forgot about them. For some reason the urgency to make something with these ruffled ties came upon me recently and I was off! I knew I wanted to make a short, cute skirt so that ruled me out as a model. (My short, cute days are over) Sometimes I’m jealous of my mannequins! Anyway, I sewed each tie to a ponte’ knit base and lined it with a thin 4 way stretch fabric. It has an elastic waistband with a zipper-like trim.

"Your" skirt is adorable. You could probably find a boutique to sell them for you.
Thanks stillsuesew. I would love to have a boutique carry these!
This is cute, I never thought about horizontal placement, can't wait to show my daughter! She is currently working on a necktie skirt, but the ties are vertical so the bottom flares. She choose to do this with her Grandfathers neckties to remember/honor him after his death several years ago. He had so many beautiful silk ties, now she has a silk skirt (she actually gave him a couple of those ties!)
Thanks Momsewz. I love working with neckties, they are so versatile! I made a halter top for my niece from her grandfathers neckties and pocket handkerchief after he passed. It makes it really special. I'll look for a pic and post it.
