I am terribly disappointed with the vast majority of fabric sellers online. They think that with one picture, fiber content and width, we should be shelling out $16+ a yard. How about information on scale, weight, drape, texture, sheen? How about some help with coordinating colors and fabrics?
My favorites are those stores who help in most if not all of these ways.
Fabric Mart Fabrics, Girl Charlee Fabrics, Sly fox Fabrics - These have lower price points with great sales.
Gorgeous Fabrics (Canada), Emma One Sock, So Sew English - pricier but they seem to offer some fabulous fabrics.
Of these, I shop most at Fabric Mart because they do an absolute brilliant job at describing their fabrics: both in text and with photos. The details in text are clear and separated from other verbiage so it is easy to find and read. They are generous with the number of photos each showing a different aspect of the fabric and, my favorite, the final one over a stool for scale, drape and translucency. I can't feel the fabric but I get a very clear idea of what I am buying. Fabric Mart Fabrics sets a high standard for all the online stores out there. Keep the bar high, FMF. I can only hope others will follow along.
