Spike Your Hand-Sewing Thread
When hand-sewing, I use a bill spike to hold my spool of thread. They are available in stationery-supply catalogs. It helps keep my spool of thread readily accessible without rolling away but gives me the freedom to pull off as much thread as I need. I can even place more than one spool on the spike at a time.
