I’m trying to use up my fabric stash, and suddenly needed to make quilts for 2 weddings, and 2 babies. This quilt (and pillow) is for my niece Alexis and her soon-to-be husband, Jason. Their wedding colors are yellow and shades of teal, and I was able to come up with enough STASH fabric to make the quilt and the little pillow. For the quilt, I didn’t have an actual pattern, but knew I wanted to do a variation of “Chinese coins”, so I just started strip piecing and auditioning placement until I ended up with a staggered coin design. This quilt and pillow resulted in a number of “firsts” for me–I learned to long arm quilt with the help of “groovy boards”, I got to use the embroidery function of my new Bernina 580, and I used a new ruffle attachment to make the flower for the pillow. Now I have one quilt down, 3 to go, and I hope to shop my stash so I can go out and buy more……fabric!
