White Patchwork Flowergirl Dress

There is a little orphan girl named Nissa who lives halfway around the world from me. I am nearing the final design stages of a pattern inspired by her, named The Nissa Dress, and this white flowergirl dress is one of the test garments. Once I do a photoshoot with it, I’ll post it for sale. The profit will go to Nissa’s orphanage, as will the profits from the pattern, once it’s released.

This dress is made up of white scraps, including lace and eyelet. I used 18 different fabrics. I carefully underlined the skirt in order that the seam allowances wouldn’t be seen through the lace and eyelet, and the hem is faced. The dress itself is very adjustable, since the ties go through buttonholes in the back and may be pulled tight or loosened. The back is fitted horizontally with two narrow elastic casings.

The bodice is made from a cotton white-on-white polka-dot print, and the straps are lined with satin so that they can be tied to show the shiny side. The fabric flowers are made of plain white bias fabric.

You can read Nissa's story here: http://heavenlyprincessblog.wordpress.com/tag/nissa-dresses/ (The site didn't let me include the link in the post - it flagged it as spam if you include any sort of link)
