New SewStylish Pattern

1784

It’s a 100 degrees here today in Connecticut, so it’s a little hard to think of fall. But, before you know it, the cooler days of late summer and early autumn will be upon us, and when it does, Simplicity’s Early Autumn pattern collection has some great items for your transitional wardrobe.

A SewStylish wardrobe

We’re excited about our new SewStylish pattern, number 1784. It is an ensemble including a six-gored flared skirt, wide leg pants, a fitted jacket with a single button closure, and a tie-neck blouse. Mix and match these items to make a whole wardrobe! The skirt, pants, and jacket work nicely in linen or lightweight wool, and the top looks great in a soft charmeuse or chiffon.

A fashionable ensemble from Cynthia Rowley

Pattern 1783 is the latest addition to designer Cynthia Rowley’s pattern line. The pleated and gathered pullover top has a bias-bound neckline with a keyhole opening in back. Make it with short or long sleeves and finish them with a bias binding to match the neckline. Pair this top with either the cropped pants or the mini skirt, both with a fly front opening and patch pockets.

A flattering vintage dress

Retro-inspired garments are extremely popular and pattern 1777 is a 1940’s dress that is just as flattering today as it was 70 years ago. The bodice is gathered around an eye-catching front inset with a jewel or V-shaped neckline. Make the sleeves 3/4 or full length. Suggested fabrics include a variety of light to mid-weight wovens or make it modern with a jersey knit.

These are just a few of the great early autumn patterns in Simplicity’s newest line–be sure to check out the complete collection.

Fall sewing? Gack. I've barely started on my summer sewing, lol.

Wow, talk about retro! 1784 looks exactly like what I was sewing in the 1977-1982 timeframe. Had to laugh at that. No more bow-tie blouses for me, been there, done that. That dress style in 1777 is enough before my time though, it is beautiful. If it were in plus sizes I'd be all over it with a beautiful wool jersey I have.

I still have a body suit with a tie cut out and in a bag. Maybe someday I will sew it up! Mommy gave it to me a few years ago.

I just looked at the patterns. This 1784 is the one I like the best. I probably have one in my boxes somewhere, but not the right size... It's too bad the pattern shrunk! It's too small for me...

I agree with SandySewin! Too early to be thinking of heavier fabrics. Summer just started and it gets really warm here! Our normal summers are 90's and 100's. I'm sewing up swim shirts and sleep shorts around here.

    Happy Summer Sewing!

If this were 1940, the photographed models would have been "plus" size. Not sure the slender styles of that era translate to overweight Americans of today.

It is laughable that you would pawn this pattern 1784 off as being 'new' when a lot of us who have been sewing for years have this pattern in our stash which has now yellowed with age.

I love Cynthia Rowley's designs, but most of them are not for my 67 year old body! That 1783 pattern with the fly front just adds too many extra layers of fabric on the tummy. But I suppose I could change the zipper to the side. The blouse is fabulous with the edgy color scheme for the binding.
I'm busting my butt sewing for summer, but picked up some paisley stretch corduroy that will make some great jeans for fall/winter in the Bay Area.
    Happily sewing,

Already working on a lightweight wool jacket or fall, and a coat that I started but didn't finish in time for last fall (a UFO).

I have a group of friends that have formed a "dress-up" club. Once a quarter, we dress up and go some where. Last time it was dresses and heels and all the trimmings for tea at the Plaza. So I am in search of patterns for the fall outing.

As to the pattern above, it's a bit tired, been there done that. iit lacks the allure of the 50's Mad Men trend with those fitted waists and wide skirts that are so forgiving. Not all retro is good retro. Remember those Dynasty shoulder pads?

After July 4 and family reunions are over, I get busy looking for the latest fall fabrics, patterns, new fall colors and styles. I make sure they are right for me.

I'm with Sandysewin -- who can think of fall clothes in July?
I did glance at the envelope backs of both 1784 and the Cynthia Rowley pattern. Am I seeing a trend? In both there are no lengths for the tops/jacket. That's something I'd really like to see and I think it is usually included in a jacket or top pattern. Perhaps they didn't have the space on the envelope?
I'm still working on the muslin for a summer dress - my first project this summer.
