Eva’s Dress

Polka Dot passion

Eva’s mother sent me a photo of a girl’s dress, simple bodice, 3 tiered skirt, from a window in Paris.  Etched lightly in the glass , “lanvin”.  We gasped when the price was a mere 1,500 euros.  So… I went to work.  KwikSew pattern, K3767 had the right sihouette.  I found a a bouncy white and black polka dot cotton, which I made sure I aligned when cutting.  To keep the dress demure, I added underlining to the bodice in white cotton shirting.  I did  catch stitching to secure the bodice seams to the underlining.  The neck and arm facings were attached from the wrong side, understitched and then rolled to the front and top stitched.  I decided to add a belt, not in the pattern, of grey and white polka dots.  I fashioned a bow out of the belt ribbon. I added belt loops in the side seams.  Because the polka dots are so busy, I wanted to keep the rest of the dress simple in appearance.  I opted to use large snaps as closures, but did them in black so that they played well against the black polka dots, basically bigger dots.   I overcast all of the horizontal gathered seams in the skirt.  Five year old Eva loves her dress and her mother and I love the less than 25 Euro price.
