This is Poppy Clementine. She likes being “glamorous” and nothing says fab-U-lous quite like 300+ sequins and a feather boa do! 😀
I made her costume up as I went along, figuring it out with trial and error, which is probably why there are far too many sequins and gems stuck on and why there are a dozen, poorly executed felt feathers lying around my house that are now kitten toys. I learned the hard way that crafting adhesives do not, by any means, replace sewing for the sake of saving time and a few machine needles. In the end, I had to recut all the felt pieces (because the glue left awful looking stains as well as didn’t hold anything together) and sew each layer together. I sewed each feather onto a small felt square and I stitched it, as one piece, to the rear of her leotard.
I had to make her leotard because I couldn’t seem to find any that would fit such a small body. I made a pattern by cutting up a too-small babygro and reshaping the neck and arm holes. Then I just copied it onto some black, stretchy fabric and sewed it up.
The bolero jacket was the easiest part; just cutting a few pieces by eye, buzzing through a few seams in the appropriate spots and then zig-zag stitching the green feather boa onto the collar and cuffs.
I found the little top hat at a craft shop, in the doll aisle and I just glued the felt feathers on, reinforcing them with pins (cut and covered on the inside so that they aren’t prickly) because the glue wasn’t really cutting it. i stuck some gems and sequins on, hot-glued a fabric covered headband to it to keep it on her head (her really fine baby-hair won’t hold combs or clips) and called it a day! 🙂
