This costume was a desing of my 14 year old daughter.
I made the corset using a commercial pattern. I added additional tabs along the bottom that I handsewed on after assembling the corset. There is trim along all the edeg that I hand sewed to the corset and also silk flowers at the neckline for a touch of femininity.
The pants and shirt are simple pieces that were very fitted using cotton stretch fabrics so as not to add bulk to the costume.I did not use a pattern for these pieces.
The boots were very labor intensive and took about 100 hours to make. There is a lot of detail in them. They go over the knee with a fold down top. There are gri=ommet and lace closures up rhe front. I added buckles and straps for decoration over the top of the laces. It would have been cheaper and easier to buy boots, but we couldn’t find a flat healed lace-up boot. These are actuallu boot spats that were worn over thin black slip on shoes. No one could tell that they weren’t real boots.
The cape is a print fabric with a solid lining. There is a draw cord about 10 inches from the top. When drawn the top of the cape folds over revealing the lining for a nice contrast.
The quiver is a cardbord tube covered in fabric that I added gold paint accents to the pattern. I applied trim to the top and bottom. There is clay in the bottom of the tube in which I stuck dowels with paper feather tips to look like arrows.
My daughter was thrilled with results. She has been inspired to design more costumes and now has a sketch book of designs . She wnats to learn to sew better so that she can learn to make costumes herself.
I hope we win , so that my daughter will be motivated to persue her pasion for design and sewing. I am afraid these are becoming lost arts and I hope my daughter will be a sewer and designer her who;e life.
