Halloween Costume Contest 2012

Anubis and Isis

The throne and Anubis head piece ar cardboard that I painted with acrylic paints. The base of the head piece is a ball that I covered with cardboard and tape . I used a fast food cup for the snout. Then I paper mached over everything. I found all the designs for the Egyptian motifs from a book on ancient Egyptians.

THe blue top has hand drawn scallop designs on it . I used a marker to draw on the scallops.

The loin clothe , collar and arm cuffs on Anubis are a heavy weight gold stretch fabric that I drew and painted Egyptian designs on to.

The false legs are muslin stuffed with fiberfill. The sandals are made from gold stretch fabric.

The Anubis staff is a wooden dowel with a decorative piece addeed to the top cut from thin plywood on a scroll saw and painted with acrylics.

The jewelry was made from beads and findings.

The blue Ank emblem Anubis is holding is thin plywood cut on a scrollsaw.

Although it doesn’t show in the picture , the Anubis eyes light up. I bought battery operated lights and lit up pingpong ball eyes.

Isis halter top and skirt are my own design. I added gold trim on all the edges. The crown is a cardboard tube covered in fsbric. I handpainte the eye and added gold trim to the edges.

These costumes use minimal fabrics , but were very time intesive . There are many parts like the head piece and jewelry that took several days to make. The handpainted designs also took a lot of time. I hope you enjoy!

I really need to win because I am passionate about sewing and crafting and am always trying to improve my technique. I have taught all my children to sew ( even the boys). I am now teaching my daughter-in-law and amlook forward to teaching my grand kids!
