Threads magazine Nov. 2000 inspiration

This is my coat of many colors. I have a big stack of Threads magazines that I have collected over the years but never really did much with them so I decided it was time that I put them to use and so starting from my oldest ones, I decided to go through each magazine and use at least one of the ideas, projects etc. and make it my own and modernize it a bit too. This jacket was inspired by the Nov. 2000 magazine ideas such as the welt pockets, although I made mine a bit different, the quilting and piecing.

I made my own pattern but you could use any fitted princess seam coat pattern and do the same thing.
The large collar is quilted and binded in pink cotton fabric. The black polka dot fabric is fabric I found at a used clothing store. The plaid is fabric I had that I had never used. The other fabrics are all quilt fabrics that I already had, the only thing I had to buy was the nice thick good quality batting. Everything is quilted except the hood and sleeves.
The hood was an after thought and Im really glad I put it!!! It will keep me warm this winter!!

back has been strip pieced first and then the pattern was layed over it and cut out, the back seam was then sewn together (back was 2 pieces) and sewn to side backs. Each strip was quilted after being joined together.

the back is longer than the front and has a pleat.
