I don't quilt but I would really like to. I want to make a pinwheel quilt.

  3. BowTies_BearPaws | | #3

My aim is to use up my stash next year to make quilts for project Linus so this would be a great book to have.

  4. Sally910 | | #4

The quilt that is my favorite is a scrap quilt that I made as a donation quilt for a homeless shelter. The design was invented as I went along with blocks of various sizes loosely based on Gee's Bend "rooftop" pattern and vertical and horizontal curvy strips as fillers. The colors were vibrant--orange, red, purple, yellow, blue--and the result was even more dynamic than I anticipated. A lot of love went into the project.

  5. sewgramms | | #5

Like a lot of quilters, I started out with the intention of using up 40 years of scraps. I'm still trying

I have only made a few baby quilts and lap quilts. My favorite one was for my grandson when he was born-bright colors and machine embroiderey. Would love to receive this book.

  18. user-2027013 | | #18

My favorite quilt is one I'm making as a "memory" quilt for my cousin who lost her life partner of only 5 years suddenly to an aneurysm at age 61. It incorporates his photos and images of his favorite activities and will be a wonderful keepsake for my cousin.

  19. Sherralea | | #19

  20. Mayell | | #20

It sounds like a great book! I'd love to win.

  21. javadiva | | #21

I absolutely love making pillows because I can finish them in 1 day! And they make great gifts. Oh, I also LOVE to make mug rugs because I have so many friends who drink tea and coffee, so again, it's a great gift. :)

  22. khjennings | | #22

On a cold winter day, what says "love" more than a cozy, comfy quilt? If I start learning now, I may be prepared to give a love quilt as a 2013 Christmas gift, Handmade quilts become family heirlooms, so all the effort pays off. I still have a beautiful quilt from my grandmother. I hope I win!

  23. Guava62 | | #23

I made my first King size quilt called Purple Dreams. I like to make tiny mg rugs too :) I never win anything so it would be a shock !

  24. user-1085566 | | #24

I love making quilts and reading about making quilts, a book with inspirational ideas would be a fantastic resource to stretch my skills further and provide me with direction for future quilts. Would love to win!

  25. LisaD2345 | | #25

I recently started quilting (what took me so long? I made a few one-block wall hangings and love them all. This sounds like a wonderful book to add to my growing quilting library.

  26. snowm | | #26

I like to make decorative wall hangings. One of my favorite was a family tree for my parents 50th wedding anniversary

  27. CraftyMNGirl | | #27

I've been looking for the perfect book to start my quilting adventures; my aunt was a wonderful quilter. I received her sewing machine after she passed - this looks like a great book to get me going.

  28. user-1045889 | | #28

    Sounds like fun!

  29. yokofabric | | #29

I need ideas to rid myself of the enormous stash I have

  30. ntharp | | #30

My favorite quilts are the ones I made using scraps from the garments I sewed for my grandchildren. They will never win a prize at a quilt show, but I remembered sewing the garments as I pieced the quilt on the machine and again as I hand quilted each one. I have one more quilt to make and could certainly use some ideas for using multiple fabrics.

I am quilting with jeans, including using the pockets. It's a crazy quilt. Quilting with old pants gives thicker, but aged, fabrics a second life. Plus, they aren't so delicate that I'm afraid to use them.

  32. Sheoyote | | #32

I'm getting back into quilting after a long time away from it.

My favorite project was when I discovered a top piece my grandmother had pieced before I was born - I'm almost 60. It was gorgeous and all sewn by hand... so of course it had to be quilted by hand.

This time around I'm going to do machine quilting... I've gotten a round-ish quilting foot for my sewing machine and am looking forward to creating some fabulous quilting designs for some new projects I have in mind... one being a peacock tail coat.

  33. Louisejane | | #33

My first hand quilting was my favourite. Mum and I went to classes together, the bonding and joy we found in that time has given me many wonderful memories. I look at the quilt on my daughters bed and I smile slowly feeling the joy all over again.
Would love to win of course, maybe to inspire me again.

  34. December27 | | #34

I've done a bit of applique, but never any quilting. It would be great to win this and learn how.

  35. betsysmom | | #35

I love to learn new techniques and this book would help me with new ideas and tips for better construction. Thanks for offering it.

  36. Gail60 | | #36

I'm just a beginner to quilting. A book like this would be a wonderful aid to get me started on what I hope will be a long journey. Many thanks for the opportunity to enter the competition.

    Kind regards, Gail, Australia

  37. QuiltFactory | | #37

I made a Lone Star quilt for my aunt recently and it was a lot of work, but she really loves it, so it is all good! I made her some placemats with the left over fabric and gave them to her for Christmas.

  38. BendingPins | | #38

Yes, I do quilt A LOT! My favorite quilt so far is "Star Blossoms", a pattern by Bonnie of Bonnie and Camille fame. You can see it here: http://bendingpins.com/2012/11/14/star-blossoms-quilt-top-done/

  39. CurlyLeslie | | #39

I love to quilt! One of my favorite things that I've made is a plaid scrap quilt for my son's bed. I just love how homey it looks.

  40. hazelspi | | #40

I have been making quilts for myself and my family for many years but recently have been working on some smaller quilted items. This year I made quilted mini candle mats and coasters for Christmas gifts...all foundation paper pieced. I like working with the smaller items and would be happy to win this book. Thanks for the opportunity.

I've been quilting for about 10 years and over this time, I've decided that my favorite part of quilting is design. I love seeing what others have thought of and adapting patterns to create my own. My favorite quilt is one I completed this year. I took and Islamic floor pattern and transformed it into a quilt for a Moslem friend of mine who was getting married. Check it out here http://s709.beta.photobucket.com/user/sjbenoit/media/IMG_2664.jpg.html?sort=6&o=4

  43. user-1109302 | | #43

My favorite quilting project? A few years ago my daughter's second grade class learned several math, art, and collaboration lessons via quilting. They cut geometric shapes in various color values, formed houses and villages with them till their compositions looked like Picasso's village paintings. I took their works and machine quilted them. Another favorite was making a "lovey" quilt for my girl using flannel squares. Artistic? Only slightly. But it is very warm and cozy.

  44. flittingimage | | #44

Life intervened, & I haven't done much quilting lately. I'm anxious to start again. My first project is to finish a Dresden Plate quilt made from feed sacks & started by my grandmother 70 years ago.

  45. irises71 | | #45

I have sewn for 43 years, since I was 10, but only started quilting 3 years ago. I love it so much my husband bought me a Bernina! (my first quilt was made on a Singer) I love quilting and now my 22 year old daughter quilts too! This book would be wonderful to receive as I gravitate towards contemporary and batik quilts.

  46. KBsewswell | | #46

I've got all the tools and have collected scraps that are ready for quilting. All I need is a book to inspire and provide instruction to use all those pieces. I hope I win the book so I can get started.

  47. HilaryDT | | #47

I made a Japanese wall hanging. I used a panel with two pictures on it, I cut up one picture into squares which I placed around the other whole panel, flowing the colours on from the centre panel. I bound it with gold fabric. The brilliance of the pink blossoms against the green trees, and the dark moon with the white cranes really looked good. I love it. I look for inspiration from books.

I'm in the process of finishing my first quilt - a lap size block-of-the-month sampler quilt. Now I'm hooked, and I'd love to win this book!

  49. mbailey | | #49

For years I've been like Mr. Bean on the high diving board. I've signed up for the beginner 2 hour course where we arrive with our supply list, cut out a few things and then it's time to go. I've bought and read books. Got a magazine on using scraps. Always get to the brink but then back away with even more rulers and a stash. Now I've watched a Craftsy course and am ready to go. Would like that book which includes small projects.

  50. sewquilter | | #50

My favorite quilt that I have quilted is a Mardi Gras wall hanging. It is hanging in my sewing room. Of course, I live in the New Orleans area of Louisiana. I have only done three quilts so far. I started quilting about a little ever two years ago and I have a lot to learn in quilting. I have a fabric stash as I would like to have this book so I could make some of the quilts. Thank you for the giveaway... I hope to win. I like the dog on the front cover. I have a fairly large dog and I love dogs.

  51. Dsapsmith | | #51

My current quilt project involves a special order for a friend to celebrate twin granddaughters. Using appliqué and piecing. Family is providing direction on blocks by using memories.

  52. MsClick | | #52

I love traditional designs that require some degree of piecing skill, such as Log Cabin or Grandmother's Flower Garden or Burgoyne Surrounded. I also love newer, faster techniques, such as free-motion quilting or quilt-as-you-go construction. I guess I just love quilting.

  53. DrivesSewMachBest | | #53

I have two antique quilts to finish up. I'm stumped. I have a quilt of my own inthe works for too many years. Some of this delay has been other projects and hemming (ugh). A book like thi wold help me get backon track with quilting. Thank you for considering my entry.

  54. HeatherMcKenzie | | #54

I am currently working on a scrap quilt for my son. I am using old dress shirts and scraps in red white and blue. I don't know who is more excited, me or him!

  55. snwwhite84 | | #55

I made a beautiful disappearing nine patch for my best friend for her wedding gift - the best quilt I've ever made. The seams matched, the color scheme, which my sister helped me with, is warm and inviting and contemporary. Simply put, it's a shame to give it away but I know that she will treasure it for years to come!

  56. sbsings | | #56

O.K., so my comment is about love, but in a sideways kind of way. I am currently making a quilt out of mens' striped shirts, inspired by Kaffe Fassett. The sideways bit is that I'm also newly divorced, so I have no mens' shirts just lying around. The love part comes from purchasing the shirts from the Goodwill, where the funds will go to help others less fortunate than myself. This is also a good way to avoid the "victim role". So far, the color scheme is evolving towards soft greens and yellows - definitely channelling a more "feminine" side of the male fashion world!

  57. marydinkel | | #57

I've always been a garment sewer, but would like to try my hand at a quilt for our guest room. It would be nice to have this book!

  58. Siouxiq | | #58

My favorite quilt was the second one I made, which I designed myself for my son. Many years later he is still using it.

  59. sbsings | | #59

I forgot to add that it's very satisfying to cut up the shirts before cutting out the pieces! A great way to blow off post-divorce steam!

  60. Moonchaser | | #60

I have a small quilt in the works. It is make of paper-pieced butterflies and I am machine quilting the outlines and on the plain setting blocks, I have a butterfly design. It is the first thing that I paper pieced, but I hope to do many more.

  61. user-2132097 | | #61

I made three quilts made from blue jean scraps for my three grandsons for Christmas. These were quilted free style. I have three more to make for the older girls this year and looking for that perfect pattern.

I have just begun to quilt to use up my fabric leftovers from sewing garments. I can see how addictive and engaging quilting is! This book looks lovely for my first real quilt project.

  63. AVK | | #63

Backing and quilting a scrap pieced top that my grandmother made for my brother when we were children--she couldn't afford Christmas gifts and lived with us. She was nearly blind, piecing by hand and feel, and my mother (both of them now gone) made a few "revisions." So after discovering this top with a tiny slip of paper inscribed with his name and in my grandmother's writing, for Christmas several years ago my brother received a gift intended for him by his grandmother, and sewn by three women who loved/love him very much.

  64. vabney | | #64

My quilting is at a beginner level, so any project right now is a favorite. I love reading about ideas and techniques.

  65. Ginia | | #65

Have been quilting off and on since 1977. Have several in different stages of completion.

  66. pattilynn | | #66

I just finished 2 t-shirt quilts for the lady down the street. They turned out wonderful, I have never made that kind of quilt before. It was a great learning experience. They loved them!!

I am a beginner quilter, but I've made a leopard, tiger, and snow tiger, print quilt with forest leaves and black trim for my daughter's bed. I enjoyed making it, and would love to win the quilting book!

  68. Karenn | | #68

I've done a few quilts and look forward to making a few more to use up some scraps! I like to sew gifts as well which included tissue covers for everyone this year. I also made owl ornaments to sell at a fundraiser this holiday season. So much to do, so little time!

  69. goodguys247 | | #69

I love to quilt! I recently got a longarm quilting machine and I'm still learning to use it. So far I have only made lap quilts and quilted bags. I would like to make a queen size quilt for my bed in the near future. This book would be good inspiration to get me started.

  70. twoclumbers | | #70

I would love to win this book. I am a beginning quilter and I think the fact that the projects are quick and easy would be a good confidence builder with someone like myself with limited quilting experience.

  71. pathersl | | #71

Beenquilting over 20 years now and to pick a favorite is difficult. Proudest of my Baltimore Album, but I like so many!

  72. Allsew | | #72

I would love to have my quilts look like they do in the pictures. I find I also have great difficulty in picking co-ordinating colors and prints and I can't seem to understand the concept of color values. I am now retired and would love to make quilts that my grandchildren would live to show off.

I'm almost done with the quilt that my Mom started for my middle son before she passed away last year.

  76. angelamp1 | | #76

My favorite quilt was my first quilt. I made it for my first niece using fabric with world maps on it. It took me forever!

  77. Barbara611 | | #77

I made a t shirt quilt for my granddaughter - the joy she showed is what makes it my favorite.

  78. Leesy | | #78

I made a small (about 30" square) quilt, and we use it to cover our iMac screen when we turn the computer off. It's a Hawaiian quilt, which was always my favorite to do. I love needle turning once I've done the basting.

  79. user-2283473 | | #79

I have sewed all my life, make all my gifts, if you are not sew worthy don't expect a gift from me. My grand kids and great grand kids love their hand made gifts every years. I do machine embroidery so there are endless possibilities.
This year I took a beginning quilters class and did my first quilt, cannot wait to do more quilting. Looking for a pattern for a bed runner for next project. It would be nice to win something.

  80. gailete | | #80

One of my favorite quilts was simple in design: 6-inch squares in primary colors, both prints and solids. Every time I look at picture of it, I smile. It is just a happy quilt. I donated it to Project Linus, and I hope its recipient gets equal joy from it!

  83. KarenJS | | #83

It is been a while since I made my last quilt... My sister has made all of my grandchildren quilts.. (hanging head in shame)

I have more time now. Just need to start back with the basics. Would love to have a book to inspire me.

  84. rastillman | | #84

I have been quilting for many years and I would say my favorites are the baby quilts I made when my twin sons were born 14 years ago. But even though I have been doing this for a while, if you can believe it, I do not own any quilting books. This would be a great item to have in my library!

  85. ASewingSister | | #85

I just started quilting a few months ago. I am currently in the process of finishing my first project, which is a quilted throw made from batiks(yes, it's taking me a long time to complete it...not much time for my hobbies right now!). I started to explore quilting, then went to a quilt show and BAMM; I was hooked! There is nothing more beautiful than a well-done quilt!

  86. Marya1 | | #86

My favorite quilt project is the one I'm working on now. A diamond 4-patch in beautiful floral prints.

  87. courtneybrown12 | | #87

My favorite quilt is the first one I made many years ago. It was a flannel lap quilt that I still have. Learning how to put all the blocks together and seeing the end result was inspiring to do it again! I also treasure that I was lucky enough to complete this project with a childhood friend. Both of our lap quilts were as different as we are and we both got to spend a wonderful day together learning, chatting, quilting, and left with great memories and two great lap quilts!

  88. KimAC | | #88

My favorite quilts are the ones I give away...something about planning the blocks and colors to suit the recipient and finishing it just in time is the best fun!

  89. ozparker | | #89

I've made so many baby quilts for my grandbabies; also a t-shirt quilt for my niece. My favorite was the double wedding ring quit I made completely handsewn for my own bed from polyester silks. The sheen of the fabrics is beautiful and it looks so expensive! Took months to make and I enjoyed every stitch. I would just love to win this book!

  90. CherylTebo | | #90

My sister and I made a memory quilt for our parents 50th wedding anniversary. There were 12 blocks. The four blocks down the middle of quilt were a combination of the things that my folks enjoyed during their 50 years together. The four blocks on the left side of the quilt were things that my Dad brought to the marriage and on the right were four blocks with the things that my Mom brought to the marriage. Each block was done in applique and was very personal. It is a teasured quilt in our family and my parents enjoyed it through their 62 anniversary and it now lives with my nephew and his wife. It was one of the best gifts we could have given them and it was a joy to make.

  91. dragonswing | | #91

Hanging over my bookcase is my first completed quilt for my grandaughter. It is just waitng to be signed. I am a quilting newbie, and joined our local guild about four years ago to learn more about this art form. In my possession I have two other UFOs that I need to finish. The quilting world is a blast, so many altruists, and at times an embarassment of riches.

  93. myMarilyn | | #93

I am just starting to try quilting. My first quilt project was designing and making a baby quilt for my first grandson, who is now 3 months old. It was a lot of fun and looks so good in his room. I made a valence to match it. I want to make some kind of quilt project for each of my children and future grandchildren. This books sounds like it would help me a lot with getting started.

  94. sweetangelpr | | #94

I just finished and shipped my first quilt to Quilts for Kids. It was the hardest thing I have ever made but it was worth it. I enjoyed the process of transforming few pieces of fabric into something as beautiful and functional as a quilt and that will bring joy to a special kid. Now I need to plan my second quilt as my 6-year old son asked me if I could make one for him (he chose a school theme). Wish me luck!

  95. txdrling | | #95

I found a picture in a book about the last century of books. My daughter's favorite pattern is the Dresden Plate. I purchased her favorite fabrics made by her favorite fabric designer and completed a queen size quilt, shams, pillows, pillowcases and a table cloth and a bed skirt. It made a lovely new bedroom for her. It was so much fun, since that time, I have made a couple of quilts from other magazines and books.

  96. user-2179514 | | #96

I do more sewing than quilting, but I am keeping remnants from garments I make each grandchild and plan to use them to make each a "graduation gift" quilt with fabrics from things I made them.

  97. Spool64 | | #97

I just did my first quilting project-an I-Pad cover. It was a lot of fun, and I hope to do more mini projects before moving up to a quilt or bed cover.

I have a few heirloom quilts which are hung on various walls of my home and I also love to quilt. I prefer wall hangings and other types of quilting projects over bed quilts. One of my favorites is a "fractured bargello jacket." I would love to win the "Quilt Love" book.

  102. pattybearkski | | #102

My favourite quilt was made for an eight year old girl whose mother was dying of cancer. One of our group is a teacher who wanted to give her something to remember her mother by so we all made special squares expressing love and family called "Precious Moments". My contribution was a large foundation pieced heart surrounded by french knots and a blessing from Numbers 6 done on my embroidery machine.

  104. user-1124559 | | #104

I have only done small projects like wall hangings. I would like to win the book to give to my sister who would like to do and learn more about quilting.

My favorite quilt projects are the ones that are made with love. So far the bright, colorful, contemporary quilts that I have designed & made for each of my granddaughters. Most recently, given for Christmas for the newest baby (one month old!). I love fun contemporary quilts & would love this book!

I have a home business making slipcovers and other items for home decor. I enjoy making quilts with the beautiful scraps I end up with. The heavier decorator fabrics make quilts that are nice and cozy.

I love to quilt, have been quilting for over 30 years. I have made several projects that I have been proud of. The one that stands out in my memory was a retirement gift for Mr. Ed Webb, band director at Denbigh High School in Newport News, VA. This music man was an inspiration to thousands of teens during his career with a love of music and standard of excellence. The wall quilt was a large applique of the school mascot, surrounded with squares bearing the signatures of all the current band members. Parents, students and Mr. Webb all loved it.

Thinking back on the quilts I've made, I think my favorite is a deep purple and beige pinwheel quilt I made for my granddaughter. Quilt Love was on my Christmas wish list this year, but as Santa didn't bring it, I would dearly love to win your drawing!

I think my favorite is the applique dinosaur quilt that I made for my son when he turned four. He opened it, and immediately headed upstairs to put it on his bed, frustrating the family and friends who had been hearing about the quilt and wanted to see it.
I've gone on to make quilts for our great-nieces and -nephews, our granddaughter, and our newest niece. Such fun!

My "Quilt from Hell" took me 22 months to complete due to back ordering of fabric and having to buy bits at a time. This Double Wedding Ring was made for my Mother's first grandchild to be married (my grand niece). I did crazy quilted sections, four wedding photos, corners made of a crochet doily I cut up that my Grandmother made and machine Embrodery roses. I added ribbon, lace and buttons. It was the hardest quilt I ever made but ended up being the most beautiful.

I've been a sewer for a long time, but never made a quilt until four years ago when my friend Donna suggested we make a quilt for our shared grandchild's first bed. She's an excellent quilter, and a very patient teacher, and his quilt turned out very well. Then we made a lap quilt for our shared son, and it looks good too.

I never would have attempted to make a quilt on my own, and I'd love to win this book for Donna as a way of thanking her.

I don't know anything about quilting. But, in 2009 I went to a quilt shop with my mother when we were on a cruise to Alaska. Nice shop in Skagway. I bought yarn, she bought a quilt kit. She passed away in 2010. Last year my sister sent me the quilt kit that mom bought, still in the bag. My goal is to eventually get this kit put together. I am hoping that if I get this book, I might be able to pick up some of the techniques of quilt making.

My challenge: to turn a grocery sack of purple 'Crown Royal' bags into a king size comforter with no pattern and never having made anything king size before. The project was off to being a UFO, until my son asked if his comforter was done (not) and his wedding was in the offing! To add insult to injury, my son wanted the comforter to have a flannel backing. So, I put my 'thinking cap' on...

Through multiple revisions of techniques, I finally fitted bags which had been cut apart and flattened to a muslin base in a 'four square' type patchwork. Then, to keep the 'bags' in place I tried: pinning, safety pinning, then finally hand basting each and every patch and got them sewn. The comforter was then sandwiched and tied, and the binding applied.

The purple 'Crown Royal' comforter really got done in time for my son and daughter-in-laws wedding! A patch commemorating the event and maker was machine embroidered and hand sewn on the back of the comforter by me. It was done!

I love to quilt, I have always loved to sew but quilting is a new love I have found. But the last quilt I made was part of a round robin. I took some photos of my granddaughter doing gymnastics and made silhouettes of her posses and appliqued them all over the top of the quilt. I was very pleased with that quilt.

  132. Sillydilly | | #132

Over the years I have made several quilts big and small. The absolutely favorite one that I have ever made was one that I made my sister-in-law several years ago. I made it with painted blocks with little sayings with little pics that express the sayings. It was so cute I almost did not give it to her that year however I did. I was told that she hung that quilt on her wall and does not let anyone use it.

quilting has been part of my life for the last 12 years. my mother did lots of piecing of blocks but only completed one quilt that i know of...it was all knits, two inch finished squares, a nine patch with navy borders.together we knotted it...it is not the most pleasing to the eye and some of the knit squares have pulled away from the seams...but it is one of my most prized posessions. my mother passed away 12 years ago. i had started a quilt of all over 2 inch squares from scraps of my families clothing. i wanted to complete it before she passed on but was unable to. i did finish that quilt ans it was a big part of my healing. i sewed the patches together by machine and quilted it by hand. although my mother did not get to see it here on earth i always felt her near as i worked on it.

I have decided to now take on quilting to use as much of it as I can. Would appreciate your vote for me on this

I have made baby quilts for all my new nieces and nephews, and I just learned over Christmas that I better pull out my quilting stash.

  153. user-2277900 | | #153

I agree, not many people have an heirloom quilt that has been passed down in their family. This is a tradition that is being lost in our current culture. When my close friend began having kids I decided that I would like each new baby to have their own quilt to begin a tradition that could be passed down to their kids. I primarily sew apparel and had never quilted before, so I picked a simple quilt pattern to use for this project. I have made five baby quilts to date. Although they are not fancy or sophisticated, they are a hand crafted item that can be used to give comfort and warmth to many children in their future family line.
I would love a quilt book with fun projects to expand my quilting skills.

I want to win this book so much! My favorite thing I've made is a vintage quilt for my youngest son. It is made out of vintage blue cotton in 12 different patterns. The back is a solid sheet of 1" thick stripes. It was the first quilt I've made, with fabric I've had for 10 years. This book looks incredible. I can't wait to get it.

I've made only a few quilts but love the process - deciding on a pattern, shopping for fabric, cutting out the pieces, having it all come together. I have several in the works but my favorite is a complex pattern that a friend has dubbed the "Sistine Quilt." Well, with all due respect to Michelangelo, the Sistine Chapel took less than five years and I've been working on this one quilt for more than seventeen years. I could say I can't wait to finish it, but then, that wouldn't quite be the truth, would it?!!! Someday, though... Thanks!

I have only quilted a small wall-hanging and matching place mats. I have a very large stash and would love to work up a queen-size quilt, but I need help with all the tips/tricks of quilting. I want to make this quilt a family heirloom to hand down to my only granddaughter. Winning this book would be wonderfully helpful.

  172. MidwestMomma | | #172

I have made a few small quilts, but my favorite quilt was a Log Cabin design that alternated hen and roster squares as the center. The wings of the chickens were red/white/blue. This quilt was donated to the Air National Guard and was raffled off to raise money for community events for holidays throughout the year.

My neighbor and I would like to make a quilt for an individual in our community who has made a lot of personal sacrifices though out his life. He continues to devote himself to the community by restoring homes, being involved, and setting an example for others to follow.

I just finished my first T-shirt quilt, a Christmas gift from a friend to her husband. It was a pleasure to create, but I had no idea it of the impact it would make. My young friend emailed me:

"Barbara, I wanted to send a note to THANK YOU for the beautiful piece of history you made for us. Jack was floored. He hadn't noticed his T-shirts were missing and was completely surprised. When he pulled the quilt out of the bag, his face lit up! He went through each T-shirt and told me about it, then took pictures and sent them to some of his fraternity brothers. All were very jealous. :)'
"Jack said that it was, "the nicest gift anyone has ever given me," and he meant it. I told him my great experience working with you and he said that he wished he "could make something that would make people so happy at Christmas." I knew he would be excited, but WOW. We talked about the kick our kids will get out of looking at mom and dad's college days. He literally took it from sofa to bed last night, and used it over our comforter for extra heat. That was one happy guy!"

This note is my inspiration to Keep On Quilting!!

My first quilt was made 20+ yrs ago & was a small throw, for the couch. Unfortunately, it just didn't hold up to daily use (seams came undone) and put me off quilting for several years.

Quilt Love? What a title! Should be "Love Quilts" for me. It's almost hard to give them away because they feel like such friends when I'm done with them. I've made quilts for all my (7) grandchildren and all my (3) children, plus others for me. First one was probably over 30 years ago and I have improved somewhat since then! Quilt books are some of my favorite reading material. I know I'll never make all of them but I can admire someone else's work.

I love to quilt! Just wish I had more time. I made quilts for my 3 grandsons last year and one of them was a guy on a surf board. I found a picture I liked then enlarged it to twin size. It was like a crazy quilt as all the pieces were cut from Hawaiian type shirts. Some of the shirts had been 'dads'. I would love any book that inspires the personal touch.

  182. user-2299872 | | #182

I am one of those lucky enough to own an heirloom quilt. I have two: One made by my great grandmother, Bea and the other by her mother Tresa.

I'm not a preservationist. The quilts were made to be used, and I do. When my children were little and under the weather, I took these out the the cedar chest and piled them on top of the other blankets. The children called them the sicky quilts. Despite whatever pathogens the old quilts might have harbored, the love left in the quilts gave us comfort and helped us heal

Time and water work away at stone and these quilts too are wearing thin with time and use. One day I'll mend them and leave my mark as a healer for the generations that will follow.

I just started quilting two years ago therefore I am just a beginner but learning with each new project. The quilt I am the most proud of is a baby quilt I made for my grandson. My daughter chalenged me to add appliqué and the echo quilting around the smurf looks quite nice. I think what makes it so special is that I did the whole thing from piecing to appliqué to the quilting it's self. The larger quilts I have made were quilted by a professional quilter taking away from my sense of accomplishment.

I would like to make a quilted spread but it seems like quite an undertaking, so my initial project was a carryall. I was so proud of it because I quilted the fabric before sewing it. It has 2 inside pockets and one on the outside; but what I did to make it unique was give it extra long straps so I could wear it hands=free! Maybe some day I will use up all those scrap pieces I've been collecting and create a memory!

It took me 30 years to finish my first quilt. Started in England for my toddler daughter, carried with me in pieced blocks to Australia, and finished for her 35th birthday, when I retired. She's an avid quilter, I'm a returning quilter, so now I have time of my own to be creative. I love incorporating an Australian touch with machine embroidered squares to make unique gifts to send with love for our ever expanding family and I'm sure the book would give me many new ideas, tips and techniques.

My first projects were 3 pillow tops, each in a different pattern. I quilted them on my sewing machine. The one that turned out the best was the double irish chain one which was good as that is a pattern I like. I have done some full quilts since that time but I enjoy the smaller projects more. This book may have some ideas for me. Thanks for the chance to get it in a give-away.

My favorite quilt has to be the 'Owl & the Pussycat' baby quilt I made for my Grandniece. It is a combination of patchwork for the ocean & night sky, and applique & embroidery for the owl, pussycat, fish & starfish in the sea, and the moon. The owl & pussycat feature 3-dimensional heads. I finished it by hand-quilting, and added cloth loops which my niece used to hang it on the wall of my Grandniece's room. I had started it when she was born, & she got it on her first birthday.
I love quilt projects, whether they be bed coverings, wall hangings, or decoration for bags & purses. I'd love to win the book & get more tips.

one of my favorite quilts was one made from 30s-60s fabric, mostly in grey and gold. it was a paddle wheel pattern w/octagonal corners. my spouse saw my initial fabric choices and said it seemed "monochromatic." while it was a subtle palette, it turned out to be lovely and surprised us both. when his parents celebrated their 50th, it seemed that the silver and gold aspects were very apt, and they enjoyed this quilt through the end of their lives, when it again reverted to us. a longtime friend who stayed in our guestroom was so smitten with it that she now has it in her painstakingly appointed NYC apartment. soon, she'll be moving, and she plans to make all the colors in her new apartment reflect the colors in that quilt she loves so much -- a better compliment one could scarcely wish for!

My favorite has to be my first attempt at quilting - a log cabin hot pad that still hangs from a magnet hook on my refrigerator. It's too pretty to use. :-)

I quilt professionally ... but never seem to have a project of my own! Would love to do one someday.

I am a wannabe quilter. Most of my projects have been home dec and apparel and rag quilts for the grandchildren. I do have the fabric and all of the "stuff" except time to do some genuine quilts.

I just retired last year and now have the time to try my hand at quilting. I have purchased many yards of beautiful fabric and this book might just give me the nerve to start!

would love to learn to quilt, too!

I made my first quilt 27 years ago which was a Log Cabin quilt in a day project that my mother & I attended together. I was pregnant with my first son at the time. This past summer that son got married! His wife-to-be asked me to make a small quilt to place under the guest book from fabric she had left over after making the triangle pennants. I came up with my own design incorporating the triangles around the border with a heart in the middle. They were very pleased with it and now have it hanging in their apartment.

I am very much a beginner quilter so Quilt Love seems the perfect book for me. I can just about manage squares and rectangles at the moment, but I learn with each quilt I make. Like most quilters I have become hooked on the craft and want to learn more with each quilt.

I love to quilt, there are so many possibilities to consider, I will never be able to make all the quilts I would like to. So instead I will drool over photos of quilts made by other talented people.

I have quilted for a few years but my favorite quilt is the lap quilt I made for my husband themed to things in his life; like the Air Force logo, being a hockey fan, model trains; and Snoopy (his CB handle). He uses it when he's sitting in his recliner. I have made quilts for my grandchildren when they were little and have various tops in different states of being finished, but I have found this is true for many quilters.

I have quilted on and off for about 20 years now and made mostly traditional pattered quilts. Love to learn all the tis, tricks, and short cuts. My favourite quilt is always the one I am currently working on!

I made my first quilt this past year. I used a pre-cut jelly roll package of prints in blacks and whites. I loved seeing the play of patterns and tones when I took it out of the machine. I framed it in a deep red batik and made my own seam binding out of a tone-on-tone black fabric. I quilted it using red thread. The hardest part for me was figuring out how to baste the layers together because my first attempt didn't work out so well! I learned a lot making this quilt ... mostly what NOT to do! I can see my mistakes, but surprisingly no one else notices them! (or maybe they're just being nice??!) Making a quilt was a lifelong dream for me. I'm happy with my first quilt and look forward to making many more!

My third endeavour was inspired by a small photo in an Australian quilting magazine I found in an Attic sale. The design is log cabin but starting the blocks with a corner square rather than a middle square. It took me a long time to figure out the border of tumblers from the photo and I nearly gave up several times during the four years I was working it. However I was so pleased with the final piecing I elected to send it to a long arm quilter to have it finished professionally and was delighted with the end result. The original was accredited to a Nicholes Wallace from Carlston Victoria in the late 19th century and is held by the national Pioneer Women's hall of Fame in Alice Springs. I am seeking to obtain a better photo to produce a label which will honour her inspiration for my 21st century version.

My favorite project was a table runner I made at a learn to quilt workshop.

I've been sewing for over 60 years and just made my very first quilted table topper/wall quilt for my daughter-in-law for Christmas. It turned out very well in spite of my fear of doing something totally wrong. And as we were exchanging our Christmas gifts, she was opening her quilt package while I was opening the package with a new quilt magazine, awesome quilt book, and a gift certificate to a local quilt store. It was so amazing because she did not know I had actually taken the BIG step to actually quilt something, she just thought it would be a hobby that I would love. It was a great Christmas gift for me, and I think for her because she cried over her star table topper.

I love to make wall hangings and then hand quilt them. I'm always looking for a new technique to try. I also enjoy the challenge of trying to resize a larger-sized quilt pattern down something that would work for a wall hanging.

This book appears to be right up my alley. In addition I have the perfect dog to pose on the cute cover quilt.

  226. jrssews | | #226

The favorite for me was a totaly silk wholecloth quilt that I made for neice. I drew the violin and bow medallion and surrounded it with hanging diamonds. It has a scalloped edge. I used china silk on front and back, silk batting and silk thread. All white. I marked it with washable water color pencils. I hand quilted it. It quilted like a dream!

The first two quilts i ever made were for my grand-daughters. They were 1 and 3 at the time - they were uncritical judges of my quilting "expertise" and although I have made technically better quilts since then, none had been as satisfying to finish and as well loved as these two.

The book looks lovely - I had a geriatric black lab who died a couple of years ago (still miss him) and he loved nothing more than to lie on the couch or floor on one of my quilts. He looked so comfortable and so happy i couldn't scold him. Quilts, babies and good dogs - those are the things that bring warmth and life to a home!

My favourite quilting project is the first-ever quilt I am going to make, this year, after more than 45 years of sewing. I have it all planned, and I have gathered beautiful cottons from all over North American, online. I'm sure that this book would be a great help. Thank you for the giveaway!

I enjoy string quilting but also traditional quilting. Contemporary quilts are on my 'to do' list though!

My favorite quilt is a Christmas wall hanging that was my first quilt. I did it all by hand sewing. Every year, when we pull it out with the Christmas decorations, I am so happy to see it!!

My favorite quilt is the one my sister and I finished recently as a gift for my son who graduated from high school in June. His favorite colors are blu and orange so we incorporated those along with music and architecture fabrics as he is majoring in both in college! It turned out so great and he is so happy with it.

My favorite quilt is a totally hand pieced table runner made over several years time when my husband and I would go on drives either across the country to visit our kids or around the state sight seeing. It has many happy memories stitched into it. Plus, although you can't see it, the inside is as beautiful as the out side.

I do love to quilt and sew! One of my favorite projects is to make small doll-size quilts that our quilt guild gives away to preschoolers in Headstart programs each December. In 2012 I surprised myself by making 150 kid quilts.

My favorite quilt project is a self-portrait interpreted in a mini-quilt of a coffee cup complete with a peace sign, water and fish. I would love to win this book to give it to my sister who is just starting to quilt. It would help her with confidence, which has such an effect on a new quilter to continue.

I am just learning to sew. My grandmother used to make quilts, I still have one she made me from chldhood. She started to teach me how to make them, but she died feom cancer a few weeks before Christmas 2012. There is nobody else in my family who sews. I think the book would be a valuable tool for myself and to teach my Six year old niece as well.

I'm kind of a new quilter cause most of it scares me a little. I have made two quilts, but they were just squares. I want to start branching out and making more difficult ones.

  245. PoshHedgehog | | #245

I Enjoy making quilts as gifts and love trying to come up with new ideas for each project. Each quilt is unique and a great way to put a personal touch to a present. Just trying an appliqué design on fleece which is really cosy ! New ideas would be gratefully received ! X

Probably my favorite quilted item I've made is the wall hanging in my sewing room. An Amish type of design. (The picture on the book looks like my dog Mikey.) Smile!
