Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host the 2013 Golden Globes

Sparkles, lace, and glitter filled the air as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took the stage to host the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards last night.

While Tina looked stunning in her sparkly, fitted, turquoise halter dress, Amy kept things a bit more subtle in her deep red, low-cut, belted frock. To my surprise, the audience didn’t stray too far away from these two trending icons.

Emily Blunt, Lea Michele, and Jodie Foster were absolutely gleaming in their floor-length gowns, embellished with beads and sequins, while Katherine McPhee, Eva Longoria, and Kate Hudson took a more sexy approach in their long and sleek black dresses with plunging necklines.

Color was another mainstay as Claire Danes, Jennifer Garner, and Jessica Alba flaunted their vibrant, floor-length dresses for an elegant, girly look. Similarly, Lucy Liu, Julianne Hough, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus took the spotlight in their printed/textured gowns complete with fitted bodices that poofed out just below the waistline.

Looking at these gorgeous couture gowns has inspired me to want to incorporate more beading into my own sewing projects. There’s just so much you can do, and so many projects that could benefit from this extensive trend.

What did you think about the red carpet fashions? Do you have a favorite? Was there one in particular that inspired you? Please post your thoughts in the comment box below.

I'm not a fan of poufy princess dresses, but the fabric used for Lucy Liu's dress is so beautiful and unexpected, I'm sold. It's both old-fashioned and modern. The colors really set it apart.

Lucy Liu's dress was wonderful, unexpected--and a breath of "spring" on a cool California night. Ann Hathaway looked like old time Hollywood with a spark of neuvo pixie hair! Great frocks this year!!!

So tired of hearing about Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough. Like her, but who cares? Loads of other terrific outfits and talented folks! At a minimum, how about seeing the winners? Thanks!

I liked Katherine McPhee's dress. Squaring off the v-neck gave a different look to the dress. It is a very daring dress, but I liked it. I found it to be a more original design than the other dresses. Wouldn't it be fun to see the dresses up close to look at the fabrics in greater detail?

I thought Nicole Kidman hit it out of the ballpark!!!

    Great dress!!

It was great to see so much beautiful color! Hats off to Lucy Liu for such a fabulous choice of color and patterned fabric and the adorable yellow clutch. Can't say i love the deep front keyhole trend with copious amounts of viisible side breast . Eva longoria looked a bit tawdry, which is a shame for such a beatifull woman. But gorgeous color like Jessica Alba's De la Renta dress just make me smile.

I saw a lot of narrow, deep plunge necklines. Almost too many, in fact - it seemed like every other dress was cut down to almost the base of the sternum. Have to give Katherine McPhee's folks a nod, they did a great job with the tape!

I thought the idea of Anne Hathaway's dress was great, and the skirt looked fab, but the top did not fit her well and looked more like a cast. It was tight up under her underarms, needed to curve gracefully around her back instead.

Agree that Lucy Liu's dress looked terrific, but was she the right one to wear it?

And Nicole Kidman is looking great again. That midriff, especially in the back, was stunning.

Jodi Foster looked better than I've ever seen her, even though that navy blue was a bit severe it sure complimented her eyes.

Finally, Claire Danes. OMG, she just had a baby? Loved the tucks at the waistline, they could camoflage a bit of baby belly even though it didn't look like she had any. And that color was perfect.

Forgot to say, man, I'd love to get a chance to look at the insides of those dresses, see how they were put together.

There is NOTHING sexy about the display of unsupported, saggy cleavage. On the other hand, apparently you still can't go wrong with de la Renta. And that's all I have to say on the subject.

Beautiful colors and lovely fabrics positively accentuated most red-carpet beauties and like most of you, I enjoy each red-carpet show. Stopping at the photo of Lucy Liu my immediate reaction was, "Yuck," and I moved on. Two photos later my mind went back Ms. Liu, "Wait a second," I said as I re-clicked on her photo. Immediately I saw what my brain so slowly noted, Ms. Liu looks like a perfectly shaped dinner bell. No, not belle. Even though she might certainly be one. The stunning silhouette made faultless by a divinely simple shape, in a lustrous blue and---ahem---rose bushes? Do I like this, I thought. Yes. Yes. I do. The sumptuous color, the simplicity, and the grand silhouette won me over any other design on this red-carpet this season. What a joy!

I would pick Jessica Alba based on the pictures posted for best dress

I don't know maybe I am just old but Eva L. and Katherine M.
looked more like they were going to the hookers ball then the red carpet hum then again it is a red carpet....

I loved Jodi Foster's classy dress. Lucy Lu's not sure I liked the floral but the design of the dress is lovely and she looks lovely. The lace M. Kor's dress is beautiful from the front view that is shown and J. Alba look beautiful in her dress.

The rest well not to my liking just look trashy.
