Make a Body Form of Yourself for a Perfect Fit

Our bodies have as many distinguishing features as our faces. Despite obvious variations in size, shape, proportions, and posture, patterns and clothes come in “standard” sizes. One way you can adjust patterns and fit clothes perfectly is to compare them against a dress form that’s a duplicate of yourself.

What follows is an inexpensive way to make a dress form that has all the critical dimensions and the posture necessary for successful pattern adjustment. It takes just $15 to $20 of readily available materials, some common tools, a bit of elbow grease, and 15 to 20 hours of your time. Two people need to work together to take each other’s measurements, make body profiles, and share materials and tools to minimize costs. So call a friend, and let the fun begin. Get the proper materials, measurements, and procedures from Veréna Gelfand in this article from Threads #24.

Thanks for making this article available as a download. However, all of the text is chopped off in the PDF, making the entire thing very difficult to read.
Can you please rescan and repost?
    Thank you.

Yes, I'm having the same experience. It's not readable in the present form---please re-do, I'm anxious to read and try this. Thank you.

Does anyone else wonder if ANYONE at Threads reads these comments? It sure seems they don't....

I downloaded the article and it is perfectly readable. Perhaps you need to download a newer version of Acrobat. I won't make this body form because it just looks like too much work but it is certainly clearly written.
    Thank you

I had no problem with reading the article.

When I downloaded the article, about half the lines of print were chopped off horizontally. Please try again!

I had a My Twin body double made for me some years ago, and it's the only thing that helped me make alterations needed due to my scoliosis.

@MsUm, @doglove, and @CarlaBernstein: I have tested on my end and haven't encountered any problems reading or printing the article. You may need to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. It also may be a printer setting issue. If you continue to experience issues please contact our customer service department at 800-477-8727.

Thank you all for your feedback!

I downloaded the latest greatest adobe yesterday and I cannot download this article.

@CaroLeeWIL: You may need to configure your web browser settings to allow pop-ups. If this doesn't work, please call our customer service department at 800-477-8727. Thanks!

I also was unable to read the article because many of the lines were cut in half horizontally.

  12. doglove | | #12

OK, I turned off my pop-up blocker and still cannot read this. I'm using Firefox---is that an issue?

  13. Evamarie | | #13

@doglove and @user-1117632: I am not able to replicate the errors you are seeing. If using FireFox, please try opening the .pdf in a different browser like Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Safari (MAC). Additionally, try this as a momentary workaround: while in FireFox, right click and save the link as a file. You should be able to open the article then. If nothing works, please call our customer service department for more troubleshooting help at 800-477-8727. Thanks!
