I have sewn for a very long time, and not with any precision, until the last two years. Now I am so interested in making all of my items to a higher standard. Most of the people whose blogs I frequent always speak of something they have learned from Threads Magazine and it is always helpful to me. I'm sure that having a one-year subscription would only improve my sewing and increase my enjoyment of the craft.

The techniques in Threads have helped me make my daughter's wedding dress -- with matching parasol -- which she designed. It was long a dream of mine to make her dress and to help make her day perfect. (The dress is seen in my profile picture.) I've found, over the years, that each tip and technique is clearly and carefully described and illustrated so they are successful for me as a reader. Kudos. I'd love a free year of Threads.

Your magazine is filled with such neat ideas on how to enhance or add embellishments to clothing or other accessories. I love the way you show new techniques and how they can be used. There are also new products that you show that may be helpful with the sewing that one does. Thank you for putting out such a great magazine.

I love threads! Even though I learned to sew at a very young age from my mother (who worked as a professional seamstress), I learn a new technique or become reacquainted with an old one with every issue. Since my husband has been unemployed for a while, I was considering not renewing to save the bit of money. Winning a year subscription would be heaven for me!

  52. mollie16 | | #52

I have returned to sewing after years off. I am devouring every issue, your magazine archive and the insider information. Would love to have a free subscription.

You have so many insider articles and perks that are only a available to subscribers, I'm ready now for a subscription. Threads covers so much of what I do and what I want to learn!

What I learn, I share with others; at the cut table where I work and with my friends and family.

Thank you for the opportunity! I would be grateful to win!

Whenever I need to re-visit a technique or find a way to improve upon my sewing skills, Threads is my go-to source every time.

Twenty years ago I majored in fashion and interiors in college. At that time I was sewing ALL OF THE TIME. Then we had our first son and I created an entire nursery for him. From then on, life and three more sons took over. Not much sewing happening in that crazy house. But now thankfully I'm back at it. I'm sure techniques and technology have changed tremendously. I think winning a subscription to Threads would get me up to speed. Thanks so much!

I believe sewing is a skill you continue to build on, and I've subscribed to other sewing magazines in the past but have found that I have benefited from Threads magazine the most. So I have decided that Threads was the one magazine I will keep subscribing to, and I let the others go quite a long time ago. So since money is tight these days for me, if I can win a free year that would be so appreciated. Thanks for the chance! :)

I have been enjoying Threads magazine since I took up sewing in 1988. It has answered many questions for me about alterations and fit. I have always appreciated the back cover and when the short stories were added it was just icing on the cake! I wish that I could always afford to have the latest copy of Threads on hand, but alas that is not the case. I was delighted in 2009 when my family gave me the Threads DVD for Christmas. I still enjoy going back into the archives and reading the articles and trying some of the projects. Thank you Threads for making crafting accessible!

  128. user-952186 | | #128

Threads has become my inspiration to try new techniques and different ideas. Being a long time sewist and sewing instructor keeps me eagerly searching for styles and ways to interchange and create new from old and integrating everything together to stay fresh and updated.

What a treat! When the new issue of Threads magazine arrives in my mailbox each month, I immediately scan it from cover to cover. Then later that night, after everyone else is in bed and the TV is turned off...it's my time to really read it. A chance to win it free for one year would be terrific!

Every time a new project presents itself and I am off on a new adventure. I love this magazine and now get it on my iPad as well as paper. I am hooked.

Threads beats the local sewing magazine hands down. I have not found a better sewing magazine on the market. Your magazine has interesting articles that show case things to make at my skill level and beyond. It's always inspiring and makes me wish I could clone myself; as I lament not having 25 hours in a day to make all the wonderful items I have on my wish list. Thanks for showing me basics like finishing techniques for seams. It's something I was never taught when I was learning. I could go on and on and on....Just let me finish by saying I always recommend your magazine to fellow sewists and a direct international subscription makes it affordable. I look forward to the Android Tablet version becoming available.

    Yours
    A raving Fan in Australia.

I have had subscriptions to Threads magazine in the past and have thoroughly enjoyed them, reading and referring back to them constantly. At this point in my life, I am trying to reduce my "bulky" inventory and decided purchase Threads on the CDs offered annually. However, I seem to keep finding myself drawn to Threads EVERY TIME I walk past the magazine rack at the local sewing and craft stores! I keep buying the single issues here and there, sometimes missing an issue because my timing was bad and the issue is no longer on the rack. I would love to win a subscription to Threads so I could enjoy them "cover to cover" again without missing an issue.

Threads magazine is one of the best sewing resources available. Where else could you find sewing advice from so many nationally and internationally known sewing professionals? It's the only magazine that makes me stop what I am doing when it arrives so that I can read it cover to cover. They never get thrown away even though I purchased the archives and belong to Threads Insider. There's always something new to be learned or a technique refreshed or refined from long ago.

I look forward to receiving my print format magazine. I am beginning to cancel other magazines but threads magazine will be the last one I cancel - and this will not be any time soon.

For the past six months, I have been sewing as much as I can to become a better seamstress. A one-year subscription to Threads would increase my skills ten-fold!

I have been buying Threads on and off since it was first published. I enjoy discovering what is hidden in the content of every issue and have been purchasing old issues.

  245. KDeOrnellas | | #245

Because I love Threads! Even when I don't have much time to actually sew, I always learn so much from reading it. Every issue is inspirational.

I am from the Caribbean and the exchange rate is 6.40tt dollars to 1USD. I am a contributor to the Insider magazine but would love to receive the actual print magazine also. I am also a home sewist trying to develop a business as an income generation. I am not a fan of online reading and a print magazine would enable to make more out of the articles..
    Thanks

I received Threads magazine for years and then let my subscription lapse because I could no longer afford it. I still can no longer afford magazines, but I would love to see Threads again. Thank you.

PTSD has been with me since our house burned down 5 years ago. I lost years of Threads which is why I would appreciate winning a one-year subscription to extend my current subscription that expires next autumn. I started Social Security this year & live with my son to make ends meet. I replaced my 2 (Kenmore) sewing machines with a different brand (Brother) that I use at least twice a month to learn the new features. My 25 year old serger was in the shop for cleaning & tuning up at the time of the fire, after which I haven't worked up the nerve to use it... yet. Time to move on and sew some practice samples. Several thrift store finds await my attempts at re-designing and alterations. Even though I grew up sewing, Threads still teaches me the fine points to make "homemade" look "handmade."

  253. Tempest1961 | | #253

As a teenager in the Caribbean my interest in sewing peaked and then I found Threads in a bookshop. Talk about off the radar!!! Alas the exchange rate skyrocketed and I can no longer buy Threads. I therefore would love to win a free subscription even if it is only for one year.

  254. user-1117962 | | #254

"Threads" is the most amazing magazine. The sewing techniques, couture garments and techniques, and the wealth of ideas keep me looking forward to the next issue with anticipation.

Thanks for a wonderful and enjoyable resource!

  258. user-2358802 | | #258

Sewing has taken a back seat in my life for several years, and I am just now trying to ge back into it, but feeling as hough a lot of new information. techniques and equipment have passed me by. he Threads magazine subscription would be the perfect way to bring myself back up to date!

  259. Jbug57 | | #259

Inspiring, stimulating creativity among my fabric stash, and offering expert guidance in techniques is what the Threads Magazine provides for me. I enjoy taking the examples and techniques to my creativity center and exploring what I can generate with a personal look and appeal for my wardrobe. I would be extreemly grateful to win a year's subscription to this fabulous resource. :)

  270. kd1357 | | #270

I subscribe now and will continue to even if I don't win. Threads is a reference like no other magazine. Although the fashion parade in some of the others are pretty, it does me more good to learn techniques than to see clothes I'd love to make although Threads has that, too. I'd love to have another year added to my subscription.

  271. Janelsommer | | #271

Look forward to each issue. Read EVERY bit--including all of the advertising, which I consider "educational shopping". I recommend the magazine to all ages, fabric customers (My work in Fabrics Department of a big crafts and hobby retail store). Thanks for a well done periodical, full of inspiration and sewing tips.

  272. user-1142319 | | #272

I've just started sewing this year, bought my first machine, and omigosh I'm overwhelmed with all the information available. I can't afford all the books and mags I want, so I spend time in the local shops flipping thru them for ideas, wishing I could subscribe. I've gravitated toward a couple mags I love, one of which is Threads. It'd be AWESOME to get it at home, instead of "window-shopping" it at the store. :) Thanks for your magazine and the opportunity to win a year's sub!

I would like to win a years subscription to Threads magazine as it is the best sewing magazine I know, much better than the sewing magazines here in the UK. I feel envious of you in America as there is so much more for sewers, but Threads magazine goes a long way to bridging the gap.

It's been 40 years since my home economics class in junior high and I hated it! We made skirts of polished cotton...before permanent press...and had to wear them all day to school the day to get a grade. I was embarrassed to death with all the wrinkles.

I've dabbled lately with Threads and am wondrously excited with the new techniques and timesavers. A free year subscription would do wonders for my education all these years later!!

i would love to win a subscription to threads magazine because i really liked reading this magazine at a friends house but she moved away and i can't afford a subscription.

  300. user-1082020 | | #300

Threads magazine has been my best source for ideas and answers to questions about sewing of all sorts for many years. I have been a subscriber for a couple of years as well as a subscriber to Insider. I bought the magazines long before my subscription though and find it to be the BEST and most INFORMATIVE of any other sewing magazine out there.
I would love to have the one year free subscription but not for myself. Last month I spent a week with my sister in another province (Ontario) showing her how to use her sewing machine for more than just mending. She made a skirt while I was there and now she is hooked on sewing and almost finished making a second skirt since I left. If I won this subscription, I would give it to her as a gift so we could continue our passion for sewing together. I love my sister and since we can't be together often, this is a gift that would come from the heart. I live in Nova Scotia and have a small, home based sewing business now that I'm retired and love what I do. It is a true passion and I feel everyone should follow their passion in life if they can. The only thing better than that is sharing that passion and passing the knowlege along. That's what Threads magazine does for me.

    Hello,

I discover Threads only few years ago when I bought the DVD. It took me about a year to read them all. At that time I copied each magazine on my Ipod to have an easy access and read it when I had the time. So, when Threads asked me some comments about the DVD, I explain what I have done with the magazine. I am happy that this simple idea was used for eveyone. Happy Threads to you !

Rejected for Being Excited to Learn More Sewing and Fashion Skills

Last fall I was kicked out of a fashion sewing class after day TWO. My instructor accused me of being "far too enthusiastic" and stated that my enthusiastic attitude was "distracting the other student in the class." Essentially, she was asking for a "sit-n-get" human sponge in a discussion and hands-on class. Thank goodness I found Threads and was able to pursue new sewing skills on my own.

Although the instructor's actions stripped NONE of my passion about sewing and fashion, she did keep 20% of my tuition; therefore, the gift of a year's subscription to Threads would go quite a long way to help me make up for this extremely costly mishap in my "enthusiastic" quest for more sewing and fashion skills.

    1. carolfresia | | #334

      Hi, TahoArt,

I love your story of prevailing over the teacher's attempt to squelch your enthusiasm for fashion sewing. That's the sort of reader we are looking for! However, I have bad news: As the post says, this giveaway offer had a deadline of 2013, so it has ended. I encourage you to continue reading Threads and visiting the website to fuel your excitement for sewing.

::-) Yes, I did see the date on post but wanted to share my story anyway. I wanted Threads and its readers to know how truly valuable this magazine and Insider are to some of us. Often the only comments shared are about what's wrong in the world, so I wanted share a positive comment on how an optimist addresses a negative situation.
