SewStylish Fall Fashion Challenge 2013

100% Wool Blazer in Fall Colors

For this blazer I chose a double-faced 100% wool plaid in a loden and brick color combination.  I usually prefer my wool garments to be lined, but I intend to wear this as an ‘outerwear’ over jeans and casual slacks and didn’t feel I needed the lining.  I used a bias strip of the self fabric as binding on the lapel and pocket edges, and also used the solid side of the fabric as pocket  facing, which you can see in the photo.   The seam allowances inside are serge-finished.   The most special part of this jacket is the buttons.  Earlier this year a dear elderly friend passed away, and her husband gave me her sewing box.  I found a wealth of treasures in this box and among them were the vintage metal buttons you see.  Every time I wear this jacket I think of my friend and what a special ‘gift’ she gave me, in addition to her friendship.

completely couture . That looks better than the silhouette 1750 pattern photo! Looks soft and warm. I know you enjoy wearing it. nice

What beautiful work! I'd love to see details, including the buttons of your friend.
