Halloween Costume Contest 2013

Wonder — who?

No, it's not Wonder Woman, but her little sister, Wonder Girl

OK, so maybe we don’t celebrate Halloween much here in Oz, but I wanted to share this photo with you anyway.  It’s based on the costume worn by Debra Winger in the 1970s Wonder Woman tv show, playing Wonder Woman’s little sister, Drusilla.  (I don’t know if she was ever actually called Wonder Girl on the tv show!)

The pattern was based on a couple of KwikSew patterns, and I machine embroidered the stars on tulle and then hand sewed them in place on the bodice.  The belt and tiara were made from very thick plastic (from the hardware store) and covered in gold lycra, then lined in towelling (in which I had made pockets to have somewhere to store my stuff) because wearing the plastic gets sweatier than I expected!  The boots and bracelets were purchased.
