Fancy Fabrics Challenge 2013

Tenth anniversary dress

I made this dress for our tenth anniversary dinner at Walt Disney World.  I love the 50’s vintage full skirt dresses with as many petticoats as possible so I used a 1952 vintage pattern.  I replaced the front button closure with corset lacing in the back (always a good idea with strapless) and added gathered netting detail at the bustline, hemline and around the bolero.  I wore the dress with three petticoats and one crinoline.

The fabric is a vintage Japanese silk brocade my brother purchased as a gift from an estate sale several years previous.  I thought this was a good use for the fabric I had been saving for “just the right project”.
