Fancy Fabrics Challenge 2013

Velvet Patchwork Coat

This velvet patchwork coat is double breasted and fully lined.  It is truly a “stash project”, made from a large trash bag of velvet scraps accumulated over the years from the floor of the costume shop where I worked.  The coat is princess seamed, and each pattern piece was cut from unbleached cotton canvas and laid out on the floor.  Then I arranged the velvet  scraps to cover the piece, stitched them down, applied a variety of trims  to cover the joins, and when each piece was “decorated” I stitched all the vertical seams. The coat collar and lapels are of striped and floral brocade, the cuffs of flocked velvet. There are beaded lace appliques on the lapels and collar.  There are two giant hidden pockets in the coat body big enough to carry everything in my purse. The coat is made from an original pattern by Bob Trump. All sewing by myself.

This is extraordinary, would you ever consider selling it?
