Make a Collage Minibag

This pouch packs style—and your phone.

Try this collage minibag for a functional and stylish place to hold your phone, eyeglasses, or other small essentials.

It’s one of the eternal mysteries: Why do men have so many pockets, while women have so much to carry? Men always have a place for their phones. Their pants come with big side pockets and their coat jackets have at least four spots to put a phone. The same is not true for women. Leggings have no pockets, and I refuse to hold my phone in my bra! This minibag is a perfect phone carrier. It’s useful, and it’s a beautiful accessory. I find it enjoyable to collage interesting fabric scraps to a base fabric. This little accessory puts even the smallest swatches to use, and the chain strap adds a contemporary touch. These instructions introduce the collage technique and a basic pattern, but feel free to embellish your version in any manner, be it paint, stencils, embroidery, beads, or more. Just get out all your embellishments and scraps for a quick and fun project.

From Threads #172, this project article by Linda Chang Teufel provides instructions for creating a convenient and stylish pouch.
