Being a 50’s fanatic – I love border prints and will be certainly trying some of the new ideas in the latest Threads magazine. I try to be just a bit different than putting the border around the hemline. The pink floral dress has the dense part of the border at the waist line when the bodice and skirt were cut. The Linen fabric lent itself beautifully to pleats, the bodice inspired by a 1950’s Horrockses design, where the darts are incorporated into the square panel.
For a 1920’s dance, I used a tulle fabric with a border print stamped on to it. The border is easy to see on the bodice. I sewed more of the spot part of the tulle to the border before cutting so I could cut the whole bodice in one piece. The skirt is a hankerchief hemline so that the border print would not be interfered with.
Lastly, the red white and black dress was needed for a theme party..I found some wooden stamps previously at a craft fair, so what else was a girl to do? Make her own fabric! It was so easy!
The dress’s were all made from my basic sloper pattern with some modifications.
