A border print sheath dress

I began sewing in Grade 5. It became a lifelong interest. Since I retired from  Nursing, I began to devote more time to my hobby and have begun to design my own patterns. I love sewing for my family and my sewing interests range from pattern design to sewing a cover for my son’s 1977 mini. This year I turned 60 and my husband took me to New York to celebrate. I really enjoy your magazine. Threads articles inspired my latest project. I began my trip by visiting Moods an interesting and massive fabric store which I had  read about in your magazine. It was hidden on the third floor on 37th street. I loved this fabric. It is a very light weight silk blend. I made a muslin first to ensure the proper fit.  I used a very light interfacing on the neck and armholes. It is lined and the invisible zipper is sewn directly to the main fabric and lining is hand sewn to the zipper.. I was inspired to make the sheath dress (Jan/14),  a chose a border pattern ( May /14) and altered a basic pattern by redrawing the neckline ( Nov/13).

I love the fabric you chose. And kudos for taking time to make a muslin before cutting into this lovely silk!

Your dress looks absolutely lovely. I've just purchased some sari silk which I'd love to make up into a similar style & let the fabric pattern do the talking! Did you underline your project and did you find it helped the final outcome? I think I might have to add underlining and then line. It would be really helpful if you could share your experience! Yours hopefully!x
