Sew a Couture Lace Skirt

Threads magazine - 175 - Oct./Nov. 2014

This article from Threads #175 (October/November 2014) by Susan Khalje will teach you what you need to know to make an elegant skirt from lace.

Beautiful guipure lace is what catches the eye in this trendy two-tone skirt, but it’s the layers of cotton and charmeuse beneath that enable the guipure to take center stage.

Here, I’ll show you how to properly orient lace so it lies smoothly and evenly spaced throughout, shape lace at the darts and side seams, and handle lace along the zipper opening. With these straightforward steps, you’ll see how simple it is to make an elegant couture skirt with guipure.

I love the 2 tops featured with the skirts in this article. Are they originals or a pattern? They would both work well in my wardrobe. Thanks for any insights you can provide on the tops.

The white top is BCBG from Lord and Taylor, the yellow top is DKNY from Macy’s. Not sure you would be able to find them anymore. If you get the magazine, all the information about the garments and accessories is in the gutter of one of the pages of the article.
