The judges gather at New York Fashion Week to watch the remaining four designers' looks hit the runway.
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Fashion Week has arrived, and the winner of Project Runway Season 13 has finally been determined!
But, before the runway shows could begin, Kini basically had to redesign his entire collection; Char had four looks to replace; Sean had to pare down the fringe; and Amanda, well, she pretty much just came to New York with a lot of last-minute sewing to do. Thankfully the designers were given one more opportunity to go to Mood with $300 so they could at least attempt to make the most of the remaining two days.

The judges thought that despite Char’s strong use of color and fun prints, most of her looks resembled pieces that were already being sold in stores. Zac said she needed to turn up the volume, while Nina thought she was trying too hard to be something she’s not. As a result, Char was the first designer to be eliminated.

Then, there was Kini. The judges knew he was gifted, had impeccable technical skills, and did a great job turning his collection around in such a short period of time. Still, they thought some of his pieces were too overwhelming and questioned his ability to edit. He was the second designer to walk off the runway.

Nina called Amanda’s collection “effortless” and loved the color combinations she chose. Zac was impressed with her pattern manipulation skills and thought she had the most original collection on the runway. Heidi and Emmy Rossum were also big fans and could tell that Amanda stayed true to herself with her designs. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for her to win.

That makes Sean the winner of Season 13! Sean’s designs were sophisticated, editorial, and fresh. The judges liked that his runway show told a story and thought that he had the freshest perspective overall. His good taste and ability to take risks really pushed him over the edge.
Can you believe it?
First, and foremost, I thought Kini deserved the win. After hearing the judges’ critiques, however, I knew that was no longer an option. My second choice would’ve been Amanda. Her clothes were wearable, but also edgy and innovative. Also, I was totally on board with her dream of wanting to create a brand. She really went the extra mile with this collection by creating her own fabric and jewelry pieces to accompany her looks. She also showed that she was ready for the next step and definitely made the most of her second chance on the show. While I do think Sean is a strong designer with great technical skills, his pieces weren’t usually my favorite. I will say that even though neither Kini nor Amanda won, they definitely showcased their creativity throughout the season, and hopefully they will still be recognized for their incredible talents.

I am appalled that Sean was declared the winner of Season 13! I agree that he has great promise and created many inspired designs, but he also had several truly lackluster looks as well (American Girl, anyone?K-mart and Wal-mart have sold the exact same look and done it better!). Sean's collection might be editorial, but women don't live in the pages of a fashion magazine! I think his creativity needs more time to simmer before being launched on the world. Also, on several occasions he took credit for things that were, to say the least, joint efforts, such as the blouse that Kini made during a team challenge that Sean won, when he spent the entire time making a pair of pants. Kini not only made his own look but Sean's blouse as well. I do agree that Kini might need some mentoring in the area of styling and editing, but his collection had more wearable, relatable pieces, and his technical skills are beyond compare. Amanda's collection, while not my personal style, was complete, down to the jewelry - which no one else attempted - and should have been considered in that light. There wasn't a single garment I would have worn myself, but I truly appreciate her commitment to her vision and her point of view and her ability to express that to the world in garments that were beautiful. I'll have to seriously think about if I want to spend my time on this program again. Maybe the kids' program will be better and not so politically driven. All I can say is that I'm not really interested in anything Sean might come up with in the future. I still look for stuff from Seth Aaron and Mondo! And I'll look for Kini and Amanda too! As for Korina, how she expects to have ANY customers after her displays is beyond me. Editing can only create so much ugliness!
Up until the final, Kini had been my favorite designer. He is very talented, but his collection was not up to what he had designed before and so it was a let down. His final dress was disappointing and unflattering even on the model.
For once I think the judges got it right. Amanda's collection was fun and wearable but I think Sean's was breathtaking, elegant and very wearable.
Kini was a brilliant designer throughout the season until ... the runway show. He stumbled and didn't earn the final win. Save the denim for another day and time; it was the wrong choice for this important venue.
I was happy to see Amanda in the finals. I like her work ethic, sense of humor, and commitment to her own personal style. Both my husband and I were cheering for her. I appreciate her final runway showing, especially the jewelry. Complete, consistent, and personal. Well done, Amanda!
But I agree with the Judges: Sean won the final round. Flattering styles, strong point of view, a story sense behind his collection, and all very flattering. I will be watching for his name on style.com
I was so disappointed that Kini did not win. I figured he would not win and I really though Amanda had earned it. Who is going to wear fringe! This stuff is horrible; even Sean was trimming it before the runway show. I have been surprised at some of the choices over the past few years. I would not be surprised to see Kini's design ideas show up someplace. His designs made sense. Amanda's jewelry was very nice, but I really don't care for her designs; I did't like her color blocking ideas.
As for Char, I sometimes think she was carried through only because of the save. She should not have made it to the runway show. I didn't care for anything she did. But I could see where someone young (20"s) might like some of her designs.
While thought Sean's designs were truly inspired, Amanda and Kini were the only designers whose designs I could see actually wearing. I was extremely disappointed with the judge's first critique of Kini's final collection (That it was too old!!) Hey, not everyone is 20 years old. While I don't think I dress like an "old lady," I wouldn't be caught dead in most of the short, revealing outfits that most of the designers showed. And I think that there are times that they forget that those in my over 50 age bracket also want to look fresh and new, without looking "hoochie." Remember that we also have the most disposable income to spend on clothing. Don't rule us out!!
